I will be using DDP for the first time this week! I am wondering if anyone can tell me the best places for a counter service meal and a snack in Epcot and at OKW?

Also, I can buy a one day ticket on my arrival and use it for any of the three days, correct? Don't have to buy the ticket the day it'll be used? I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, just double checking. Thanks!

Oh, best way to POR from OKW is boat to DD and then DD to POR via boat?

TIA

There is only one counter service at OKW (unless The Turtle Shack is open, which is seasonally) and that is Goods to Go. Mostly just hamburgers and stuff like that. Not a food court by any means.

No direct boat from POR to OKW, you have to transfer boats at DTD.

I like the CS at Saratoga. The Food Courts at POR Riverside and FQ are also very good. We love the apple pie at Riverside as a snack/dessert option. I also love the Fish and Chips at Rose and Crown at EPCOT. We also like the Scallops and Fish & Chips at Raglan Road CS-we did NOT like deep fried snickers!

Also, one day passes are valid until you use them-at least that is what I was told.

I also have a DDP question.

When we stay for a week in a 2 BR the # of guests change during that week. We may have my mom come for a day or 2 or my FIL for a day or 2. Sometimes DH meets us if the kids and I go early. So my question is, if we have flexible #of guests can we get only a few DDP and not others. I know the plan is supposed to be for all guests for lenght of stay, but we do not always travel that way.

All guests with room keys must be on the reservation...all people on the reservation must have the DDP for the entire length of the reservation...so no, it will not work for you. A good alternative (if you have an AP) would be the DDE card - good for 20% off at all almost all Disney operated table service restaurants.

A lot of people don't travel that way-- which is one reason why DDP is not the perfect plan for every family, for every trip. It was never intended to be the "one size fits all" discount plan.

DDP is what it is. If you get DDP, you will have to buy it for all members of your party for each night of your stay-- whether or not that works perfectly for you.

If the plan requirements cause you to have extra credits, you can use them for Signature Dining meals or dinner shows which require 2 TS credits each. But they're not going to allow you to have one person on for a few days, then a couple of days with a reduced number, more people for the last few days. That's just not going to happen.

If DDP doesn't work for this trip, you might look into the DDE card. Also, don't forget that there are DVC discounts at many restaurants.

First of all, if you are staying on a DVC points ressie, you don't have to buy park tickets at all to get DDP. If you do purchase tickets, they activate the first time you use them. You could keep the ticket for years before you use it -- you don't have to use it on this trip.

Actually, the best way to get from OKW to POR (at least PORFQ) is probably to walk! It's right down the street.

In addition to the boat to DTD, you can bus to POR. There are no resort-to-resort buses, so you would bus either to a theme park or DTD and then transfer to a POR bus.

Frankly, either Disney Transportation option - or a combination of the two - is more time than I'd want to spend getting around unless there was some really special reason for making the trek. You're probably looking at 1 1/2 - 2 hours of travel time...maybe more.

The other option -- which might be second-best after hiking -- is to take a cab. It's a very short ride and shouldn't cost much.

You can walk from OKW to Port Orleans?

I'd love to know how to do that! (I'm a walker...loved the walk from OKW to SSR, but I'm also a geographic dunce...so "directions for dummies" about how to do the walk from OKW to Port Orleans would be met with a cheer and a "my hero"!)...

Thanks!

And to respond to the OP:

There are SO many CS options that are good at Epcot...many of the "countries" have counter service options...Germany, Japan, China, Great Britain, Mexico, Morroco for sure, and I think France does, too...I think you can also get an open faced sandwich as a CS option from Norway...in Future World, Seasons (next to Soarin in The Land) has really good choices, and the Electric Umbrella's salads are a nice add'n to the "usual" burgers and chicken strip options...

Snacks also abound, especially in World Showcase...but Epcot has a "snack stand" (over by Ellen's Energy Adventure) that allows you to use a snack option for a frozen lemonade treat that we didn't find available anywhere else ...

As for OKW: we just left OKW last week, and the Tutle Shack was open while we were there (8/29-9/3)...they had sandwich-type counter service fare...we didn't try Goods to Go (but really enjoyed our TS meal at Olivias)...lots of snack choices in the sundries/souvenirs store (I forget its name) next to Olivia's, too...but I'd agree that the counter service food choices are wider (and I personally think better) at SSR--which is easily accessible via a 15-minute walk (on a golf path that's extremely pleasant) or by the boat that starts at OKW, stops at SSR, and concludes its journey at Downtown Disney...and of course, Downtown Disney is "the" place to go for food!

You'll have tons of choices!

Out either of the gates from OKW, turn left on DVC Drive to Bonnett Creek Parkway (traffic light). Right on Bonnett Creek Parkway to PORFQ (Can't be much further than a 1/2 mile walk from the main gate to OKW). Riverside is just a little further up Bonnet Creek Parkway from PORFQ. I'm not sure of paths/sidewalks -- don't remember seeing any.

If you look at this map, OKW is #17, PORFQ is #16, and POR Riverside is #15. http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/propertymap.htm

Looking at aerials of the area, I found an alternate route to PORFQ. Just for reference, if you go to the main gatehouse at OKW and throw a rock across the street as hard as you can, you will probably hit the PORFQ parking lot. It's that close.

Here's the alternate route:
Go out the main gate of OKW and turn RIGHT toward SSR. A very short distance down DVC Drive (<300 yards), you will come to a bridge. Do NOT cross the bridge. Instead, walk to your left (North, I think) along the canal bank. In less than 200 yards of nice canal-side walking, you will come to PORFQ parking lot, as well as the beautiful canal-side walkway that connects PORFQ and Riverside. Again, the whole trip from the OKW main gate to the start of the PORFQ parking lot is well under 1/2 mile.

The only reason it's a half-mile is you have a small canal to go around. As the proverbial crow flies, it's only about 200 yards.

Wow!

Pause for a huge cheer!

You're my HERO!!!!

I'm thrilled to know this...I just love Port Orleans/Riverside (our very first "real" (i.e., not piggybacked to a business meeting) on-site trip to Disney was to what was then Dixie Landings (now it's Riverside)--I've never forgotten (or duplicated) that feeling of awed wonder when I first arrived w/my then 8-year-old son and 12-year-old nephew...we had such a phenomenally good time that trip...so much about that trip was above-and-beyond magical...

I've been wanting for years to go back over there and remind myself of it--but DS is never willing to "resort hop" and I've just never quite gotten around to doing it...and I suppose I should "warn" myself that seeing it again, this time thru the eyes of a DVC owner/multi-times visitor, it may look different from my no doubt rose-colored memories!...Our next trip is at SSR at T-giving and I arrive the day before DS gets in from college, so I'll have a full day on my own...that will give me a great opportunity to walk from SSR to OKW, then over to Riverside...if I'm lucky, the holiday decorations will already be up (I'm getting in the Sunday before T-giving), and if so, I'll get to see their Christmas decorations (which I remember as spectacular)--

You've made my day, Jim (doesn't take much, does it? I do recognize I could just walk over to Downtown Disney and take the boat or a bus!)...thank you so much! Dani

I think Disney would discourage walking to POFQ from OKW merely by the fact that there are no sidewalks to walk on. You'd be walking on the right of way or through the woods, neither of which are really all that safe. If you don't have a car of your own, a cab would be the quickest and safest way to get there.

I think that "canal walkway" is really the cart path for the golf course and pedestrians are not allowed on the cart paths. Except, of course, the sidewalk along the canal between POR and POFQ.
