DDP - Purchase for One Room use for Two?

We are going to WDW in October with extended family, there will be 6 adults and 6 kids. We will be staying in two rooms under two reservations at SSR. On our last trip we purchase the DDP for one room and shared it between the two. Is this still possible? I would assume it is as all they did on the last trip was give us a big bank of meal, counter, and snack credits and we used as necessary. We like the DDP but when you arrive late evening on your first day and depart early morning on your last day there is no time to use all of your meals and we don't like to take the time for 2 sit down meals during the week.

Can and should are two different things.

You are not supposed to do that....the credits are supposed to be for the people staying in the room that paid for them. But...it doesn't have your name on it so how are they going to know if you or Grandma in the next room are eating.


Now...if what you're asking is you have 2 adults and 2 kids in your room paying for the plan, and 2 adults in the non DDP room....then I've read you'll not be able to use 4 adult dining credits at one meal, plus the 2 kids. Yes, you have a pool of them for use however you want....but apparently the card DOES say that it's 2 adults and 2 kids....so that's the maximum you're supposed to be able to use per meal.

How well that's followed is probably dependent on the server and restaurant, but be ready for some refused credits if you try it. And remember that you won't know until the end of the meal if it works....so that could be a hefty bill if you weren't expecting it and ordered the most expensive stuff available, lol.

You certainly can share your snacks and counter services as you want. However, it becomes more complicated for sit down restaurants. Maybe the 2 extra adults can order something small and eat from your plates. Usually we have more than enough food to share and then end up wasting food.

However, as said before, can and should are two different things. You decide for yourself.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't realize there was an entire section devoted to the DDP. I have been looking through the posts on there and it appears the DDP isn't as flexable as two years ago but it still looks like a good deal for all of us to sign up.

I think in terms of the dining plan the "can vs should" argument is not relevant. There is no stipulation thats says you cannot share a plate on the dining plan unless rules have changed since last year. What has changed is the you no longer get an appetizer so this reduces the amount of food each person gets at sitdown meals. I personally do not think it is enough food to share with the size of the group you are talking about. I guess it would depend on the amount of food each person will eat. Also I would not want to be part of you group personally because not that I mind sharing food but would not want to have to argue over what to order that I will be sharing. This would not work in the case if you wanted to do buffets or character meals or certian places like 'ohana where you pay per person. I do not think you would be able to order drinks to share b/c they are unlimited.
On a final note I would remind you that gratuities are no linger included in the DDP and with a party your size they may add gratuity right to your bill.
I just realized that you siad you did this before, well I still would not recomend doing this but am not saying it is wrong, sharing all my meals is not my idea of vacation.

The rules of the plan say you cannot do that.

DP credits are for occupants of the same room. You can share credits or food between them as you see fit.

DP credits are not tranferable to others not on the DP or staying in your room.

That's the rule now and it was the rule last year as well.

You can use those TS credits a lot of ways: TS breakfast doesn't have to take a lot of time. You can also use 2TS credits for room service at your resort. Signature meals or shows like HDDR also use 2TS credits as does any meal in the castle, Cinderella's Royal Table.

Taken from the 2008 Dining Plan Brochure(exactly the same language in the 2007 FAQs):

Q. Can I use my Disney Dining Plan to redeem meals for friends or family members who
are not included in my reservation and have not purchased this plan.

A. Sorry, you may not use your Disney Dining Plan to redeem meals for friends or family
members who are not included in your reservation and have not purchased this
plan.

Actually it does specifically say that you can't share with someone not on the plan. Sharing a meal with someone on your plan seems to be accepted at some restaurants, but not with those not on the plan. And that's what OP is proposing....half the group would be in a room without the dining plan. Those people would need to pay out of pocket for whatever they ordered.
