DDP or fall discount

I priced out the cost for two of us at AKL Arusha view with fall discount or FD discount, the difference is a little over 700.00, I always allot 100.00 a day for food for two of us so I am thinking the FD would be worth it for us. What do you all think? The fall discount would be 700.00 less.

Agreed. You'll need to answer the usual questions.

Do you both want dessert at all meals?
Do you both drink soda/tea/coffee with all meals?
Do you want TS and QS?
Will you use the mugs?
Will you eat what you really want to eat no matter the cost if paying OOP?
Will you eat something you don't want so as to maximize the DDP?

I think the DDP plan will be fun to have for a change, usually never do it, so mainly to try again, we will be going again in April 2015 with DVC rented points so won't do the DP then. My DD is 14, she is quite mature for her age, does anyone think doing California Grille with a teenager is worth the two credits?

She likes seafood, pasta, and most meats. She is not picky, she loved Boma for dinner. We wanted to try a few new places, this would be one of them. I just booked the trip so I am doing ADR now, I am a little late about 110 days out so not finding any character meals except Tusker House which we have done several times so thought of trying the California Grill. My daughter loves character meals even though she is older. We are going Nov. 15-22.

The dining plan costs about $60 per person per day, so you technically come out ahead with free dining. But as PP has pointed out, if you don't plan to eat in such a way that maximizes the value of the dining plan, you may do better paying out of pocket for food and going with the room only discount.

Either way, I think the savings would be negligible so it probably doesn't matter. We are in the same situation and opted to keep free dining, because like the plan and would have purchased it anyway.

Wow, you made the right choice for sure, it is interesting how different the rates can be, I looked at many different weeks to find the best one for us!

Is your Daughter also going with you? If she is 10 yrs old or older the FD discount is worth it because she is considered a Adult by Disney.
We have always done very good on the FD discount because we have 3 adults and we stay at MOD resorts.
We've had FD for 3 different trips and have loved it. We will be going again in Sept. with FD and very much looking forward to it.

Whether a room discount is a better deal depends on a lot of factors, but mostly how many people are in the room. Free dining for four or five people is very valuable, but for one or two people, the room discount can easily be worth more. Also, the room rate makes a big difference, too. A value discount will typically be 15% off $200/day, or $30. But a deluxe discount of 35% off $400 is $140 per day. You won't feed a family of five on $30, but two people could eat like kings on that $140 discount.

All such good points, it is only my DD 14 and myself, I based it on the food budget I usually take so that is why I picked the free dining. I am excited for it, usually oop trips for us for dining so this is nice. I booked a few expensive places to try for us. California Grille, Coral Reef, and two character meals ( Tusker House and 1900 park fare), we normally do a couple sit down places, this trip will be six yippee!
