DDP only part of trip with separate reservations?

Let's see if I can ask this without too much confusion! Our family of four is staying at BCV, then moving to VWL. My daughter will return home early, the day after moving to VWL. I do NOT want to have buy the DDP for all four of us for all 3 days at VWL since she will not be there two of those days, so just figured we wouldn't bother during that part of the trip.

It just dawned on me that when I booked VWL I only had one day, then waitlisted for each day on either side of that one night; as those became available they were booked. Each of the three nights has a separate reservation number. The CM I spoke with about another issue told me that he would link the reservations to prevent us from having to check in and out or move, but that each night was booked independently. When I added the DDP to the BCV reservation, also patched together after waitlisting, he asked me "all nights?" but it didn't really register with me at the time.

Is is possible for us to just have the DDP for four for only the first night of the VWL portion of the trip, when all of us are actually there? Then either drop it completely or just have it for the three people on the reservation for the other two nights?

If the reservations for the days are linked, then you must purchase the plan for every member of your party for each day.

If the reservations are not linked, then each day is treated separately and you could purchase the DDP independently by day. HOWEVER, if they are not linked, you will be required to check-out and check-in each day. You may also have to actually move, so you would need to pack up each day. You probably don't want to do this.

You get a lot of food on the plan. If you're using it before checking into VWL you may not actually want it any more. Remember the plan is valid for your checkout day at BCV, so if that's also the same day you check-in at VWL, you could save some credits for that day and not try to use them all by the last night of your BCV stay.

Since our Disney Dining Experience can't be used on our first full day at VWL (July 4th) we would like to have DDP if that is okay, especially since we have a reservation DD would like (back when we didn't realize she would need to leave on the 3rd.) I don't care about checking out and in, and can't imagine why they would possibly move us but we could deal with that. I certainly didn't book this way because I wanted the ability to separate out our stay, but if it works where we aren't penalized by paying for her after she is long gone that would be nice.

Anyone have experience with this situation, that is, have you had separate reservations at a resort where you used DDP for one reservation but not entire time? Any moral/ethical/procedural issues I'm missing?
