DDP meal complement question

I was last at WDW in 2005 during free dining and at that time for TS meals we had 1 app, 1 entree, 1 drink and 1 dessert per person. I think I just read somewhere that apps are no longer included? I had assumed the were.

Since DH and I are not dessert eaters, could we substitute an app for a dessert instead?

I have never tried it because I have read on the disboards on many occasions that substituting an app for a dessert is not allowed. That's one reason we have found that we enjoy the Deluxe Dining Plan. It includes what your referred to in your op.

99% of the time, no. It can't hurt to ask, but the reports from people attempting to do just this have been wholly negative.

A few years ago (2007? before my time here at any rate) apps were removed from the regular DDP. They are now only included on the Deluxe.

Appetizers have not been included in basic DDP starting with (I believe) the 2008 plan year.

You may not substitute an appetizer for your dessert entitlement. This is a hard rule that is pretty much universally enforced. Suspected reasoning: otherwise, parties with 2 adults (more adults would follow similar patterns) would often opt to split 1 appetizer and 1 dessert, taking up more table time for the same cost.

You are, of course, free to order an appetizer OOP.

If you're not big dessert eaters, the dining plans are likely not going to be a good fit for your party. (Unless you're getting the free dining promotion and it is easily the best available discount.)

As others stated, you are not allowed to substitute app for dessert since they took away the app from basic DDP. I did have success in ordering the cheese tasting board at CG as dessert and I asked to get it before meal and CM had no problem. Don't know if that is something unique or not.

True! CMs are not allowed to do it for any reason, not even health reasons (diabetics, etc).

About the closest that anybody has done is to get a cheese plate or fruit plate instead of dessert but it's served at dessert time and not as an appetizer.

As I said above, they did give me the cheese board after the meal at CG. Not sure if that was a unique situation.

On the regular dining plan it isn't allowed to switch out your dessert for an appetizer under any circumstances, including medical conditions (much less if you just don't like dessert and would prefer the appetizer). You can ask for an alternative dessert (and sometimes cheese selections can count as an alternative dessert), but you can't get an appetizer.

The regular plan included appetizers up until 2008, when the deluxe plan was introduced.

Apps no longer included, tips are no longer included. Also if you are staying at a value hotel, it's the quick service plan that's included for free dining, not the regular plan. You can pay the difference to upgrade. Alot has changed since 2005.
