I'd like to know if this is something we could do, or if it would be cheating the system. Now let me tell you, it really bothers me when people post things about sneaking extra people in a room, or using refillable mugs from other resorts, so if this is not something you can do, please don't label me as one of 'those' people ;)

We are going to WDW for our wedding in July. We have APs and have the DDE. However, after a lot of planning, budgeting, and a nice little excel spreadsheet, we have determined it will be cheaper for us to buy the DDP.

The downside is that we have to buy 2 1day MYW tickets for ourselves even though we don't need them. Now I know, I know, we can use them next year when our APs are expired, but here is my question.

My mom and sister are going to buy park tickets. Can we get the MYW tickets under our reservation number, buy the DDP, and then give my sister and mom the MYW tickets since they don't have names attached to them? My mom would then pay us for the tickets we bought and we wouldn't have to waste money on tickets we don't need right now.

Does that make sense? Is it allowed?

TIA :thumbsup2

I also thought I should clear up that we do not have a MYW package because we booked our room as a 'room only' reservation using our wedding discount and then we have our APs.

The tickets haven't been used, so of course you can gift them to your mom and sister. Last year, three of us had 6 day passes (I'd already bought them) and my DD had an AP. SO...we have 4 (+1 from before) one day passes sitting here at home, and they will go to whomever can use them. Congratulations on your wedding!

You need to convert your room-only reservation to a package - that's the only way you can get the Disney Dining Plan.

You can't 'just buy it' unless you are staying in a DVC property using DVC points.

Thank you! How do I go about doing this? Do I need to call CRO and buy the tickets and then call Dining and give them the conf # from the tickets? Do I give CRO our existing ressie number?

As soon as you add the tickets to the room, it becomes a package-with different cancellation policies, too, I think  .

Now I'm so confused :rotfl:

If it then becomes a package with our room, then our names would be 'attached to it' which would mean we couldn't gift it to a family member.

The Disney Dining Plan is available ONLY to:

Guests purchasing a Magic Your Way Package; said package includes the resort room and the same park ticket for every person on the reservation. The ticket purchase can be anything from a one-day base pass to a ten-day non-expiring park hopper with water parks fun & more. As part of the package, the Disney Dining Plan must be purchased for every person on the reservation, for the same number of nights as the reservation;

and

Guests staying at a Disney Vacation Club property using DVC points; again, the DDP must be purchased for the full length of the reservation and for each person on the reservation, but there's no ticket purchase required.

You're not confused at all. That's the way it works. Now, if the four of you will be touring together all day one day, you could accidentally confuse the four tickets before you enter a park, then straighten out the issue once inside, repeating as necessary if you proceed to other parks, or leave and return to the same park later that day.

OK, so we can't gift the passes :guilty: , however, I'm wondering what purchasing the package means. Does that mean we would have to forgo our room discount and book a room with the package?

Above poster is correct. The tickets would have your name printed on them, so you couldn't give them to your mom.

I would call Disney and ask them if there is any way for you to retain your discount if it's a discount you received as part of your wedding. If it's an AP discount, then you'll have to forfeit the discount.

If you go ahead and book the packages with the tickets, you can give the tickets away by taking your key cards to the concierge desk and tell them you would like the ticket part of your package on paper tickets. You can then give the paper tickets to whomever you want. The desk will remove the tickets off your cards.

If you have a room only reservation and you want a package, Disney can only do this by canceling your previous reservation, refunding your money and rebooking you with a new package.

I asked something similar to this before and was told that all we had to do was buy 2 1day MYW tickets, no package, to be able to get the DDP. Did this change for 2007 or something?

Our wedding discount is not affiliated with our APs, it's just a standard discount they give when you book your wedding in a room block.

I am totally confused :confused3 I think I need to call CRO. Thanks everyone for your help so far!!

Buying your 1 day MYW tickets in conjunction with your hotel makes your room ressie a package.

If your reservation is for room only with an AP discount then you need to cancel your reservation and rebook a package with room, 1 day ticket and DDP.
If your reservation is a discount because of your wedding you may still get the discount on the room, but you will need to have CRO switch your room only to a package for room, 1 day tickets and DDP.
Once you have the room and are checked in you can go to guest service now called concierge and have them take the one day tickets off of your room card and issue you two one day paper tickets--at this point you can do with them whatever you want.

Thank you!! That makes complete sense :)

I have had no problem gifting the tickets when buying DDP (I'm also an AP Holder) but they're on your room key. my BF and I did it with another couple, registered to our room, since they did the parks for two days. First day, they just used our keys for entry. There is no problem doing this since the ticket has not been used yet.

Just make sure to find out whether you will lose your room discount if you convert this to a dining package.
