DDP for part of your stay on points?

We are planning on staying on points from 04/03/2012-12/03/2012 and I want to purchase the DDP for part of the trip, but not the whole thing.
Is this possible? If it is, will it expire after a certain number of days, or on the day you check-out?
For example, if I purchase the DDP for 5 days will I only be able to use it 04/03/2012-09/03/2012 or could I spread out the meal allotments until 12/03/2012. Does that make sense? Can it be done?
I'm guessing no, but hoping yes.

No, you cannot spread the credits out for extra days. You basically check out and back in at the start/end of your dining plan days. So the day you check out, your credits expire at midnight on that day.

I used to think the DDP was a good deal but now I am not so sure. We usually stay in the 1 bed villa so we have a full kitchen. Its nice to eat at home instead of going to a noisy restaurant. In the time it takes to get seated and served I can bbq some steaks and clean up the dishes and back in the parks. We love to cook and I know what I am getting when I make it myself.

We also like to venture off Disney property to explore other dining options around Orlando.
