DDP childrens menu

I am still trying to decide if we should get the dining plan this May. I am amazed at how much mac and cheese, chicken strips, and hot dogs they expect our children to eat. Which places have no childrens menu? My grandson won't eat most of the kids menu and certainly not every meal. They really should offer small portions of the same food adults order or the children's option. This may be a deal breaker for us. I can't see giving him food I wouldn't eat every meal. What do other families do? Do they let them eat whatever from the buffet places?

There is list of places that do not have a kids menu in the 2009 DDP thread stickied at the top of this forum http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2054845

There are a lot of counter service places that have good kids options - Sunshine Seasons comes to mind as one that has some very good kid options. Many have either a turkey sandwich, or something else that isn't 'typical' kid fare. Almost all of the pizza places now have a pizza option too (that's new in the past few months)

I think every TS restaurant has at least one item that is a smaller portion of an adult entree that is either offered or in the theme with the restaurant. Most also have at least one fish option as well.

Buffets are nice because the kids can pick and choose whatever they want from the buffet.

Hope this helps (I just was starting to research the kids menus for our January 2010 trip and spent a lot of time talking about kids food with my 6 year old this weekend)

Hope this helps! :goodvibes

This is the one caviat for me with the DP, I hate the kids' choices!!! Luckily for me, my DD is a chicken nugget girl, and I asked her if she minded that she always had to eat off the kids' menu, and she looked at me like, "Why would I mind that?" When I was a kid, that would not have flown with me! I was raised that if the grown-ups ate steak and lobster, that's what we got to eat, too. I also raise DD that way, but hey, the girl loves her nuggets! :confused3

I always book several buffets, because the kids CAN indeed get whatever they want, not just the kids' choices. That does help.

I hope this info helps you. It's a dilemma, for sure. I can't wait till DD (8) is old enough for the adult plan. I don't mind paying extra. I just hope she doesn't still want the nuggets!!

At most of the CS places my niece shared my meal.

At Flame Tree and at Cosmic Ray's we shared the 1/2 chicken meals.

At the resort she would get pizza with special cheese (lactose intollerant).

We did a lot of buffets. My 6 year old loves nuggets but once a day was plenty. For us the buffets and family style worked great. If you mix in Ohana and Biergarten that breaks up the same old buffet too. Good luck, I agree smaller portions of some regular meals would be great.

We never had a problem with it.There are CS places that have better selection( Sunshine seasons is one of them) at all the TS places we ate there was something good.Le Cellier had kids steak, Morocco had a kis dish, france had a kids dish too.It also helped that DD would pretty much eat chicken nuggets and mac n cheese all day if I let her.
