DDP Changes and BOG pre-order

Hi everyone,

We are going to WDW from July 8-15 and we have an ADR for BOG lunch on our first day there. We heard that the line can be very long if you do not pre-order your food. It will be myself, DW, DS5 and DS1 who are going but DS1 is obviously not on the dining plan.

With the rumoured changes I have heard, being able to substitute a dessert or non alcoholic drink for a side, I am wondering if anyone knows if you can do this at BOG lunch and if you can substitute the french onion soup for your dessert. If we can do that, we will probably be able to get away with DS1 eating off our plates with the extra soups instead of desserts.

My main question though I guess is, if these changes are allowed....how do you pre-order this way? Do i order our mains and then soups and no desserts? Will it make it complicated and a hassle when we get there?

I really hope someone is able to help me here as we are first time DW'ers and want to do things right and have as few complications as possible.

Thanks in advance :)

No one really knows yet how to do this. Hopefully someone will do the substitution and report back. You can pre-order as late as the day of, so I would keep checking here to see if anyone does it.

If you read this you will see it explained in terms of Table Service Options and Quick Service Options.

- BOG lunch is Quick Service.
- Sounds like your substitute could be fries.
- You can not substitute from the appetizer menu, which French Onion Soup is considered.
- To order the French Onion Soup you can use a Snack Credit. (that has always been the case)
- In person it requires two transactions, one for your mean/entree/drink and one for your snack credit.
- I have not pre-ordered, I always order there so I can decide that day.
- No idea if subs can happen in a pre-order. .

The report you linked to says for QS: "Guests may substitute any dessert or non-alcoholic beverage choice with any eligible snack, provided it’s within the same transaction." So, since you can use a snack credit for the soup, you should be able to substitute it all in one transaction. Until we see reports from people doing this as BOG or get official confirmation of plan changes, I personally wouldn't pre-order if I wanted to substitute, but it should be possible according to this and other unofficial reports.

That is where this will all get very tricky and I imagine the CMs will be all over the place. It is a Snack Credit which they say is okay but then it's on the Appetizer Menu which they say is not okay. Most QS have no appetizers. Now it could be that Disney might remove it from the Snack menu to avoid confusion. But again, no one knows and in the beginning I imagine it will be hit or miss everywhere.

I haven't seen anything from Disney even acknowledging this new deal. It was supposed to start weeks ago .... but not seeing much talk about it.

There are a couple reports on the Changes To Dining Plans sticky. Definitely sounds like a lot will depend on what CM and restaurant you ask for the moment. Hopefully, it will be more standardized soon.

BOG is the hard one, because the rules are different for QS and TS, but of course it's both... According to the unofficial reports, lunch should allow the soup as a substitute because it's a snack, but you're right dinner should not allow it because it's an appetizer.

Disney hasn't made anything public that I've seen, but they still haven't announced the BOG breakfast extension that obviously already happened either. From all the reports from Disney-related sites and people who've been this month, it seems obvious that there are changes, but before more information is out there...no one's really sure on anything.

I just wanted to say that we thought the cupcakes at BOG were the best quick service desserts we had all week. Of all the desserts, these are the keepers.

I think with breakfast there isn't really anything to announce, it's the same "test" they've been doing. Until it's available without end date it's still a test. But this Dining thing is a whole new pile of complicated rules and it's going to be a cluster. I can imagine each restaurant having slightly different rules just based on their menus. And each CM will implement depending on if they follow rules, understand the rules, don't care about the rules. I think the problem with the French Onion Soup is it's not a "cup of soup" that they will supposedly offer.

IF this is true then Disney needs to ANNOUNCE it and make a DDP brochure outlining all the specifics so everyone, guests and CMs alike have hard copy to check.

Assuming the reports are at least mostly true, I agree the TS will be a cluster with each restaurant appearing to set their own dessert substitution options which will only be available upon request...The only way to know will be to ask your server and who knows if they'll give you one choice or five, what the options will be, and if those selections will change frequently? The only rule I'm seeing is that they will have to offer something instead of dessert.

However, if reports are true for QS like BOG lunch, it should be simple; you should be able to substitute anything that qualifies as a snack credit. If it has the DDP logo you're good. No logo no go. *Of course, I am in no way suggesting that Disney cannot or will not find a way to muck it all up!* :sad2:

didnt even think about this. I'm excited that I can possibly substitute or use snack credit at lunch for onion soup- yummmm will keep an eye on this thread for more info
