DDP cancellation question

We are booked for June on my DMIL points, and have added the DDP to our ressie (no credit card asked for or given at the time of booking). I know that this doesnt get paid until we get down there, but what if we decide not to do the DDP? Do we have to call in advance to cancel or can we just wait until we get down there and decide at the time of check in (which is when the DDP would get paid for) whether we want it or not.

I am flipping back and forth because i want a certain degree of spontaneity on our trip and the DDP doesnt allow for that because you have to book all you TS in advance.

Any input on cancellations of non-paid for DDPs would be appreciated. Keep in mind I am not talking about my restaraunt reservations, I mean my resvervations for the DDP itself.

As of a little while ago it was noticed that Disney is now putting a cancellation policy on their restaurant pages. Here is an example, http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/dining/diningDetail?id=LeCellierSteakhouseDiningPage

It is possible they will now begin to request a credit card number to charge a cancellation charge if you don't cancel in a timely manner or don't show up. Personally I don't disagree with this since the system has been so badly abused.

I made three reservations over the weekend for our upcoming August trip. I had to give my resort confirmation number, charge card (hold) and was told that I needed to cancel 48 hours ahead of time if I didn't want a penalty.

We stayed on points last year and added the ddp and paid when we got there. I "think" you can cancel before 48 hours, but I don't remember (I remember them telling me, but I forget now, sorry). I'd ask over on the DVC board, I'm sure someone there will know!

Because the points belong to your mother in law, she must be the one to call and remove the DDP from your reservation. I believe you have to do this at least 48 hours before you arrive.
