DDP and MagicBands, Need everyone at register to scan MB?

Neither AAA or WDW-DINE can answer this question definitively. Can someone tell me if every person on the dining plan has to be at the register in order to scan their individual bands, or can any person in the party just scan for everyone?

I am envisioning my wife and kids sitting down for QS and sending me up to the counter. Do I either need to take their bands with me or can I just deduct from the total meal allotment of the group?

Nope. As long as everyone is on the same room reservation, you only need one band. If you have multiple room reservations, you need one band from each room.

Note that at some places (Be Our Guest Lunch all the time, and a few of the larger park CS at times when they are really crowded) your party may not be allowed to sit down until they have their food.
