DDE ? - may be dumb?????

Aren't you suppose to pay tip on the full check amount and not the discounted amount?

Yes, you are supposed to tip on the full/orginal amount. I think that some people weren't and that's why Disney put the automatic tip on there. JMHO

example:
dinner total $100
18% tip would be $18
total OOP $118 +tax

dinner total $100
18% automatic tip $18
20% DDE disc off -$20 (off the check total)
total paid $98 +tax

does the DDE work at all Disney Restaurants? I thought back in 2004 when they tried to get us to buy it, it was at certain restaurants. If it works at the same eateries as DDP, then i have to consider the DDE.

Help.

It does NOT work at all Disney restaurants. It is good at counter service only at the value resorts, POFQ, SSR and Animal Kingdom (excluding Anandupur Food Cafes). Yak & Yeti doesn't take it. At Downtown Disney it is good only at Planet Hollywood, Raglan Road, and Cap'n Jack's - noplace else. It's useable for Hoop de Doo and the Spirit of Aloha, but only at the late shows. There are 8 blackout dates a year (usually major holidays) when DDE can't be used at all.

On the other hand, Bistro De Paris and Victoria & Albert's accept DDE (V&A in the main dining room only), and you get a discount on alcoholic beverages in restaurants and lounges, and on food in the lounges at parks and resorts. You can get half off a Pleasure Island ticket by presenting your DDE card.

DDE is available to annual passholders and Florida residents.

I didn't notice this little additional benefit of the DDE in any of the PPs. If you are dining at any of the TS restaurants in the resorts, you get valet parking for free. That saves another $8-$10 (I'm not sure how much it was on our last trip but I do know that the rate increased in January). In addition, we had breakfast at Chef Mickey's during our trip in January and were heading to Magic Kingdom from there. The valets allowed us to leave our car at the Contemporary all day which I am assuming was another side benefit of the DDE.

DDE actually saves me 22%. The 20% off the bill and an additional 2% because they only tip 18% whereas I would have tipped 20%. As much as I grumbled about the change to the forced gratuity, there was a silver lining.

Aren't you suppose to pay tip on the full check amount and not the discounted amount?

Yes, and they figured the tip based on the original amount in their examples.

Here's a comparison of those who tip on original bill and those who have tipped after the discount when people used to add back the discount as the tip:

$100 original bill. 20% = $20
$80 discounted bill 20% = $16

And if people were leaving a 15% tip on the discounted bill, that would come to $12, or only a 12% tip from the original $100.

So instead of a $20 tip, I'd leave an $18 tip gladly and pocket the change.

Thanks for all the responses. After looking into it a bit more I realized that the blackout dates are excluded - we travel at the holidays - maybe someday when we don't have to deal with high school schedules it will work out:thumbsup2
