DDE Discount when ressie is in one name, Card in another name

We're vacationing with another family in October. After much picking and choosing between us, the wife of the other family made all the ADRs for meals as I was away during our 180+10 window. I was going to call for CRT because the DDE card belongs to our family. However, she ended up making that ADR too, as during the course of conversation the CM told her she had one available for our party. That's great-- I'm glad she grabbed it while it was available, but now we've missed out on the 20% DDE discount. We don't want to cancel her ADR and rebook because there is nothing suitable for our party size at this point.

So, is there any way for us to get our 20% DDE discount when the reservation is in one family name and the DDE card is in another? For our party of seven it would be a $70 savings for this one meal, so I'd like to take advantage of it if I can.

Thanks.

If I understand correctly, you're all dining at CRT - is that right? If so, you should just need to show your DDE card when the check comes (or to your server when you get there) and they should adjust the check by that amount :confused3

I don't think it matters who's name the ADR is in, as long as the DDE cardholder is present, you'll get the discount.

The DDE holder does not have to be the one paying, but does have to be dining with you. We use our card for our friends often when they dine with us. Our last several trips we have been using the DDP and dining with some of our CM friends (because of dinner restrictions on CM discounts) we have always been allowed to use our DDE card for their discount. Strange isn't it? We're getting our CM friends a discount, when you would think it would be the other way.

Just an FYI, the DDE discount at CRT does not come out to the full 20%. Since there are other things included (e.g. pictures), Disney does not apply the 20% to the full price but instead applies it only to the amount they designate for the food. For our breakfast last year, the discount came out closer to 10% of the total.

That said, you should have no problem receiving the discount with the reservation being in one name and the DDE card in another :)

I know that I can use my DDE card for up to any 10 people as long as I'm in the party and we will get the discount. CRT is a little different however, as the person who books it has to pay for the meal when she made the reservation. So our October CRT breakfast already paid for--there will be no check coming at the end of breakfast.

So given that it is "pre-paid" can I still present the card at the end and get the discount issued to my friend's credit card?

Thanks to all who responded.

I had heard they were no longer taking DDE for CRT, glad to know they are.

Phew...good thing I read this thread.

I just got me DDE card yesterday after ordering it last week (I was expecting it to take a couple more weeks). I made ADRs for CRT in December before that. I didn't remember the CM saying anything about it being prepaid...so I called WDW-DINE to check, and get it adjusted.

Well, apparently when I made the ADR and the CM asked if I was on the DDP, I said no, but I will be on the DDE but haven't gotten the card yet. When she booked it though, she marked it as if we were on the DDP anyways!!! So the credit card was taken for a no-show charge (which is what I was expecting anyways), but it has not been charged and they show a balance due. I don't know if she did this intentionally because she couldn't discount without the DDE card, or she just did it accidentally.

This CM said they will correct it and adjust the charge at CRT since I'd have to pay out of pocket anyways.

I think they get confused between the two pretty often. We were at the Sci-Fi last week and were asked if we were DDP. We said no, just DDE. We were marked as DDP anyway. :)

I don't think it matters who's name the ADR is in, as long as the DDE cardholder is present, you'll get the discount.

I agree and have done it at CRT when my sister booked it.

When we booked at CRT for our last trip we had not yet ordered our DDE card. I prepaid the meal without the discount. When we arrived at the restaurant we asked our wonderful server if there were anyway to get the discount credited back. She said she couldn't credit the discount but could get us a disney gift card for the amount of the discount. That worked great - we just used the card to pay for something else.

It will not be a problem..we do it all the time. in fact when i got the card in october it was under my maiden name and when i went in may all of our reservations were under my married name. no one even said a thing.

When we were at CRT two weeks ago I had paid for the dinner with my credit card. We had not yet gotten our DDE card. This card was in my mother's name. We gave the card to the waitress and she brought us back a disney gift card with the discount total applied to the card. I will try to give the number this next time that I make my ADR's to aviod the delay at lunch. As the pp said, it did not come out to 20% of the total but was a little over 10%. As far as I am concerned, any savings is great.

Thanks shellybaxter and mickeymouse1017. That is my scenario. So we will get the discount rebated to us in the form of a giftcard. Great!

Thanks.
