DDE Card Vs. DDP

Hi Everyone,

Last year we traveled in Oct and purchased Annual passes and the DDE card. That was so wonderful for us as we brought my in-laws and saved a ton of money on dinners. Now, this year we are going back again in Oct (with the in-laws) and the DDE card will still be valid. What I am also considering is getting the DDP since we are staying at SSR (yes we are dvc members too).

Can anyone tell me if the DDP is worth doing if we have the DDE card? I am researching a couple of people's sites where they have dinner options layed out, but I also wanted to post the question here.

For your information we will be eating breakfast at SSR, lunch in the parks and for dinner we do like to try different restaurants. Our favorites include Le Celier, Alfredos, Boma, etc. So we do have sit down meals every night.

let me know your opinion.

Thanks.
Deanna

I'm going in Oct as well, a DVC member staying on points, and I'll be adding the DDP for all 4 of us. I will be renewing my DDE card as well, at the end of August. Well, not actually renewing it since it expired in June, but rebuying it.
I did sit down and made a meal by meal comparison, using the DP and the DDE. They came out very close...about $70 difference...including the DDE price. I just think it's easier to have all the meals basically paid for at the outset. I'm traveling with my dd and another mom and her dd. so, this way, we won't have to worry about splitting things.
But, we will be paying some things OOP..HDDR (which I got a 20% discount on using my DDE card), a few meals not covered by DDP, as well as our 'adult beverages'. We'll be eating a bunch of breakfasts (not covered by DDP) at Spoodles, so the DDE will cover that also.

Throw in a character meal or two, and that is typical of what we do.

Obviously, the cost of the DDP depends greatly on the composition of your family. We have two adults and one child (4), and we loved the DDP. I calculated that we saved about $70 (compared to what we normally would have spent, not some crazy menu price comparison) on a 5-day trip. But we did two character dinners, and we ate better than we would have normally.

We have DDE as well, but only used it a couple of times for alcoholic beverages with dinner on the DP. I like both plans, but if the DDP is still available next year, I won't renew my DDE.

Thanks everyone for the reply. That is kind of what we thought. Like you guys, I think we will purchase the DDP and then use the card for breakfasts and drinks. I definitely forgot about the alcohol part :) The card will definitely still come in handy for that. A bottle of wine at LeCellier will start to add up.

Thx for the opinions and advice!

We are also DVC members who were in the same position in May. I had purchased the DDE for our December trip, so it was still valid. Of course, I felt that I had gotten my value out of the DDE during that trip, so any additional benefit was "bonus."

I did some calculations and figured that it would come out about the same whether we did the DDE or DDP. I went with the DDP as a "treat" for my DD--we have no way of knowing how long it will be around and available for DVC members, and it would be something different for this trip. We very much enjoyed the DDP, and I liked the fact that everything was paid for in advance--I didn't cringe when DD ordered the most expensive steak on the menu, etc. DD felt that the DDP was the highlight of that trip--of course, it was the new and different feature of that trip.

The flatbread at SSR (CS on the plan) was great.
