DDE and 18% tip

FYI to all DDE card users.

We just got back from 9 great days in WDW. We had the Dining Plan and DDE. We found that some of the lounges are already adding back in the 18% tip, as well as some of the restaurants adding the 18% to the bar portion of the bill - which is what is supposed to be the "big" change to the DDE for 2008. So, if you're going to WDW before Jan 1, 2008 and use the DDE - check your bill before adding your tip! We didn't question it - because we usually tip 20% - but almost added 20% to the 18% the first time it came across on the charge slip!

Yikes! Thanks for the heads-up. Was hoping to avoid that until 2008...oh WELL. At least now I won't double-tip. For 38%...well, I can't imagine any service being worth that much.

Btw, were you asked *before* you sat down (or ordered) if you had the DDE? Just interested...

We used both the Disney Dining Plan and the Dining Experience Card.

We were never asked if we had the Dining Experience - but always were asked if we were using the Dining Plan (because it showed on the room card). We were short on Table Service Credits because we ate at 3 signature restaurants - so we used the Dining Experience at 2 of the buffets we ate at - as well as in all the restaurants (if alcohol was purchased with the meal) and in all the lounges. Combining the 2 dining deals worked well, and most of the time there were no "hiccups". (The dining plan did "drop off" our room cards 2 days before the end of the trip - long story - so we had to keep all our dining receipts for 2 days and get the meals, snacks etc credited before we left). Just beware of the added back 18%!
