Morning bud. Just me. I think its looking good, we only need an Lateral Flow to get into Florida, and I've got 3 weeks to get it showing negative. I'm testing every day and the positive line is really really faint now, and only appearing after about 10 minutes, so we should be good. Don't need anything to return to the UK we stopped it all about a month ago. Just hope the kids don't get it, I paid the balance of the beach house today......

Your truck costs 1/3 of a week or driving it costs that? 1/3 of a week at Disney for your family, I would think that would be between $2k and $2500. Either a very cheap truck or a very expensive commute.

Let me tell you a story. Back in December of 1997, 1 week before I was to get my driver's license, I spent $7500 to buy a 1993 Chevrolet K1500 pick up truck. I was rolling in a sweet ride in high school but blue book now would probably be around 2500... even if I did just have to spend more than that rebuilding the engine last year . So that is what I was referring to.



All these years later, I still have that truck, and I do drive it to work much of the time for 2 reasons.
1. My newer heavy farm truck is a 2015 Chevrolet 2500HD that runs on diesel and diesel is expensive.
2. I kind of want to save mileage and wear and tear on that truck because the only way I'll ever be able to afford an upgrade is if I win the lottery.


But after looking at your question, at 14 mpg, $4 per gallon... I might have to do some math...

I've been thinking about upgrading to a new car. Mine is still running great, but is 10 years old. Typically, that's when I trade them in. Haven't decided. No payments is definitely cheaper than payments... and even if I got a, oh, say $5,000 repair... it's still cheaper than a new car.

But... gas powered or electric? I like road trips and the infrastructure (and the way I do my trips) means electric won't work. I need an electric car with a range of at least 1,000miles/16,000kms. Best I've seen so far is about 370miles/500kms.

This. I have no problem with the idea of going to electric vehicles. They'd actually make great towing vehicles with the torque and on demand power that they have. But the range and lack of charging infrastructure, especially in rural areas, is a huge problem. Also, stopping every ~350 mi or so to charge for an hour is much different than stopping ~350 mi or so to take a leak, get a snack and pump gas for 5 minutes.

Now for driving back and forth day to day, it would be great to have one, but can't hardly justify another vehicle just for that.

Exactly. I need a car that will allow me to hop in my car and drive to Chicago that evening (840miles) I can't do that without long stops. Several. I want to do it in 12 hours... not 3 days.

Yeah. If I'm rich (I'm not) I can say "This is my daily commuter and that's my long distance car" (And also "That's my short hop helicopter and that's my longer range jet.")

I'm staying onsite in August... but it wasn't without grimacing when I booked it.

I'm going to save some money and stay off-site.

This. And add to it that if you actually want to take advantage of Genie+, you better get your butt out of bed and hope your finger is faster than everyone else's. My mom loves Disney World more than anyone I know. She went with my sister's family around Thanksgiving. After experiencing Genie+ and all the changes and how everything was, well, let's just say I've never known her to come back from Disney World and not start planning for the next trip. The planning has yet to commence.

This isn't the first time I've heard this, and it's sad. Sorry your mom didn't have a good time.

There are a lot of things that we can do with that money as a family to still have fun and make memories. And I'm pretty sure we could make that chunk of cash last more than a week in doing so. I think we will probably end up going next summer, but our trips will not be nearly as frequent as they were in the last decade. After going 6 times in 9 years, it will have been 4 years since our last trip (at the earliest) before we return.

Back from the World, and it sounds like I'm one of the few left that will consider going any more...

That said,
we did have an extra two years to put funds away and alter the plans (over, and over and over...) to try and make it even possible. We were paying for four, which is better than six, but still pricey.
They've about priced us out as well, though. Stayed off site this time which helped considerable on the expense side of things, but comes with a few sizable handicaps in regards to taking the best advantage of park time.

We still managed to have one mighty fine time, but there were certainly a few compromises here and there and some things that just simply didn't get done.

So, are we done going?
Likely not, but it'll be at least a coupe years and I doubt I'll be bringing anyone other then the Misses along for the ride again any time soon.

Well, I had a good Saturday.

Went to Trier. Oldest city in Germany. On the Mosel river. Used to be a Roman city and has a LOT of Roman construction still standing and some ruins.
Saw the amphitheater which was cool
Took pictures of the failed(never completed) Roman baths. Didn't pay to go in...wasn't that interested.
Went to the museum. I'm not a big museum person in general and only a few things had German and English text. I had an audio device where I could type in a number and it would give a narrative. Problem is only about 1 out of every 25 had a number. A few things interesting, but a lot of time, steps and stairs for just a few.
Had a nice lunch and a couple glasses of Mosel Reisling (Trier is on Mosel river and Mosel region for wines).
After lunch, went to the porta nigra (black gate)
Found a supermarket and bought a couple bottles of local wines (only 6,50€ each).
Decided my feet had had enough and still had an hour drive back, so headed back to parking garage.

I don't think I saw everything, but I saw enough. All in all, a good day.


And a lot cheaper than a day at Disney even with gassing up the rental at $5.09 a gallon.
