DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Apologies, Principal Strickland. Hill Valley High is a tough place.

Sit up straight and take out that gum.

On the ADR front, got ‘em all within 20 mins of my ideal time, so not too shabby.

Good!

No liquids, just some pills. As for the website, it was pretty vague, just listing stuff like purses and briefcases and laptops as personal items. It's possible I missed something.

Which airline?

This is my office for the until Wednesday.

Not too shabby!

Not a bad list. Missing some ADRs on a couple days. Do you have the Landry Card? Gets you into Yak n Yeti without ADR.

Actually I have 1 too many ADRs on this trip:eek:. I usually only make 1 ADR per trip and the rest are quick serves, with all the days we are in the parks it would cost a fortune having all table serves:scared1: got to save some cash somewhere, for future trips:thumbsup2

The next trip to WDW I will officially be in the old man's club, hitting 50 next month:faint:. On the bright side I can join AARP and get all the discounts:thumbsup2. I wonder if any restaurants on WDW property offer AARP discounts:confused3:rotfl2:

Nope.

I'm still at the games although this week I moved to the Nakiska Ski Resort area. This is my office for the until Wednesday.

The yellow circle is where the 88 Olympic downhill started while the green dot is where our kids race from. Here is the bottom of the run which is actually in the middle of the mountain. The Olympic run came all the way down to where I took the first picture from.

That’s just a little bit of awesome right there...

For those of you who stand over there being wrong in your wrongness and ignore the beautiful game, yes it is.

I love the optimism. Keep at it. I'm sure they'll win the next one.

I'm telling you, they're due!

Nice work. :thumbsup2

Awesome. I have a lot of respect for competitive skiers. Willingly throwing yourself down a nearly vertical sheet of ice takes some major guts.

No, she technically can't afford it as you are paying her car, insurance, & lodging. Mine has that same mindset, and even though she is working, she isn't thinking about the future. My oldest is 17, and I let her drive my car, which is already paid for. When she says "my car", I quickly remind her it is mine and she isn't leaving home with it in a year. I'm all for supporting our children as adults, but that means supporting them making good decisions. If they take a vacation while I'm paying their bills and not going on vacation, then it's not a good decision.

I hope it works out. I anticipate DW and I fighting about this next year when my oldest graduates from HS. She has watched her parents enable her brother's poor financial decisions for 20+ years, and I fear she will do the same for our dds.
Good luck with that. My daughter is 20, and fortunately has a pretty good head on her shoulders. (She still remembers the lean years when I worked for the state university.) She's looking at spending a year in Germany as part of her college program, though, and I know she's got plans to enjoy the hell out of it while she's there. There's at least one weekend trip to Disneyland Paris planned, for example.

I'm kind of dreading when younger son heads off to college, he doesn't remember that time at all.

Tough one for sure but from what I have seen you post here over the years seems like a good kid with a good head on her shoulders. I get that you and many other families, cover the cell phones, car insurance, tuition, etc. I would look at it as if she doesn't go you would still pay for the other stuff so if she goes on her dime then maybe not too bad. I have seen what our 2 kids schedules, stress and workloads are like in college and a break like that with friends may not be the worst thing.
Well, let's see...
I told both my DDs (now 18 & 21) that when they turned 18, the gravy train ended. As long as they are in school, they get free room and board, but... phones? Pay your own. Make-up? Clothes? Car insurance? On your own. Plan accordingly.
As for travelling.... If she's an adult... let her go. But! (I've done this with my DDs) Make sure she knows that if she wants to rent a car... lots won't unless you're 25. Hotel room? Many won't rent unless you're 21.

Thanks for the feedback and moral support guys.
I'm not at all happy DD's decided to go off on a trip that she thinks she can afford but really can't. I'm with you all on ending the gravy train. But shutting it off too quickly probably won't sit that well with DD or DW. I don't really have it in me to fight it so I'm just keeping the peace. It doesn't help that DDs friends are horribly spoiled, get anything they want without consequence, so when it comes down to a situation of DD being "the one left out" I just throw up my hands and tell her it's her choice, but she will get no financial help from me.
Looking at it from a different perspective, she does work hard at university and she did get her first year on scholarship. At least that's DWs way of looking at it.

Is it Friday yet?

Morning all. We are up to 31 degrees this morning. Perhaps if we declare war on all ground hogs and wipe the species from the earth, then we can have warmer weather.

We tried QS dining a whole trip, and it's not for me. While some of the QS places have a nice menu, I enjoy at least one TS a day. But, I can also sit at the bar and drink my dinner with pretzels, peanuts, etc. Just some of my only few talents.

The next trip to WDW I will officially be in the old man's club, hitting 50 next month:faint:. On the bright side I can join AARP and get all the discounts:thumbsup2. I wonder if any restaurants on WDW property offer AARP discounts:confused3:rotfl2:

Happy early birthday. With all that extra savings, you might be able to add in another TS. :lmao:

I try to just drink heavily. It makes things better - for awhile.

Morning, all. Just waiting for my courtesy car. Got in a minor fender bender. No big deal.

Thanks for the feedback and moral support guys.

Start with one thing “You will have to start paying for your own ___ when you turn 19. And ____ when you hit 20.”

Maybe? Sell it to DW as part of being independent and to DD as part of growing up.

Beverly kind of day. DS has been trying to get things organized to graduate in December a semester early. Unfortunately we just got the final word from the state authorities via the principal that even though he can have all his requirements done by then he still wouldn't have enough time in class. He went to work before I got the official email so I have to break the bad news to him when he gets done. He won't be happy. Doesn't like his school or his classmates and just wanted to get off to Basic Training for the Air Force next January and start life. Somehow i need to convince him to stay motivated and see if we can come up with some other option for him. From my perspective I can tell him that all things happen for a reason but at 17 he doesn't see it and I wouldn't have at his age either.

Sorry to hear that.

That's soooo screwed up!!!! We don't care how smart you are or how hard you work, you have to be in our school for X amount of time. That's total hogwash and by hogwash I mean BS!!!

I would appeal it to the school board or county or someone. There have been many many examples of people attending college at 12, 13, 14 yo. If he's completed the EDUCATION (pretty sure that's what he's there for) requirements, is it also a prison and he has to serve his time????

Again, if it were me, I'd fight/appeal.

DW has an overnight trip for work, so it's just me and the girls. It's not a question of take out food, just where it will be from. :lmao::sad2:

I did two runs on the "easy" trails yesterday. Let me tell you they are not like the easy trails on the East Coast.

The only runs that are considered easy are beer runs.

Sorry to hear it. We have elected to not to study halls in HS, which will put my girls in a similar spot with your DS. They did just change some credits needed to graduate though, and we.need to adjust. However, mine had to do the dual credit thing and get started early on career/ college credit.

Sorry to hear that.

Welcome to KY schools where education isn't measured by performance or critical thinking skills, but # of days you show up to get federal $. It's funny that we used to have a state slogan "where education pays".

Morning boys from a Sunny and 68F London, we are in the 4th day of a little Feb heatwave.
Signed my contracts this morning, so I am back working for the man. Just a little plastic one this time.

30 more minutes til shift ends. Hope everyone’s day goes swimmingly.
You too buddy, get some rest.
Beverly kind of day.....
Another victory for bureaucracy. We need to check a box, and that's it. Hope he keeps his chin up.
It's not a question of take out food, just where it will be from
I vote pizza. A bit of Prosciutto, a bit of Black Olive, an accompanying frosty Pale Ale.......
Will be heading to AK to join one of the DisDads I met at DDCC7(he's not on the disboards though) and his family.
Enjoy that mate. Extoll the virtues of the mothership over the bear pit that is FB.

Have a good day chaps.
And remember, Strange women distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Jus' sayin.

This sounds very familiar.

DD is finishing her B.A. prior to commencing her B.Ed. She had all her courses lined up and... with a year to go, they changed the requirements for the B.Ed program. Now she's taking one course this term to graduate. That also means that now she's not a full time student so she doesn't have medical coverage anymore under mine and DW's health care plan until September.

once I get off work, it will be better. Will be heading to AK to join one of the DisDads I met at DDCC7(he's not on the disboards though) and his family.

Nice! Have fun. :)

You too buddy, get some rest.

In about 2 minutes. Just warming up before I pass out and figured I'd catch up here beforehand.
