Hello again, guys. I've seen some of you over on the boards at DISDads.com (GoofyDadDoug) and in the Facebook group, so I'm checking in here as well.

For those who haven't checked in over at DISDads in the past week or so, I'll share a bit about myself here as well.

My name is Doug, and I'm a 44 year old Disney geek from Virginia. My wife and I have 2 sons, ages 9 and 11 and we've been making trips to WDW since 2010. Although we've only had 3 full trips (and a single "adults" day mixed in there) I feel like we've been visiting for a lifetime as it simply feels like home. I'm usually either planning our next WDW trip, on a WDW trip, or convincing my wife that we need to start planning again! At all times, I'm browsing the latest information and looking deeper into the "World" as we know it. My wife is convinced that if my I.T. career ever dries up I'll have to try my hand at being a Disney travel agent as our friends and family usually call me with their WDW questions. I don't know it all, but I enjoy looking for the answers.

I'm glad to have found this group of dads, and I've enjoyed the chats and podcasts so far.

I'd like to 'make it official' and add my name to the list of dads - and see what number we're up to now, so if you would lay it on me.

Hope to see you guys here, there and at WDW in the near future.

Welcome!!

Welcome. Dues are payable in dole whips, beer, bacon, or cake. You mail them to me and I distribute to everyone (just not Jim).

I would really like to have a quest like that, but then I look at the prices on the menu's for the signatures and decide that I'd rather spend the money on other things.
.

Initially, DP worked when kids were younger, DVC discount ok, and now onto TiW. I would like the money to spend on other things as well, but if I don't spend on food, DW will spend it on something else.

DW works 3 days a week for an orthodontist. She doesn't necessarily like it, the pay isn't great and the only benefits offered are a 5% match on a 401K and free braces for employees and their families.
.

Great benefit there. Want to adopt mine for awhile? :lmao:

I had braces for almost 3 years as a teenager, so I know what the process is like. Unfortunately, someone threw away my retainer when I was in the Navy and I was unable to get a new one sent to me at the time. So now my teeth have shifted. I cringe at the thought of spending another $5k to fix my teeth... but I may have to as it's really starting to affect my bite. Sigh. I guess it's better than $10k!!!

I have an overlapping bottom tooth. My dentist asks me each time if he can refer me for braces or try to build a device to fix it. I tell him I'd rather spend the money on Disney restaurants.

Hi
Cutting grass in the middle of the day is fun:scared:

But since it's rained 9 out of the last 10 days I had to get it down before the tribe of pygmy warriors started chasing me to my car!!

I'm just glad all that rain finally left here and went to you - and took the pygmies along. :lmao:

We took our daughter to the orthodontist last week. After seeing what braces will cost, I think we're just going to tell people she's British.

:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

The younger one won't need them, so I'm one kid and done. I hope you have better odds.

Don't worry Norm, I am leaving again next week and won't have much access for about 19 days. I'm sure the pace will keep to the slow pace you enjoy. That is unless you get another mom that wants to join. :lmao:

Just a check if you were reading the posts. :lmao: I saw where you are on Team Sparrow, so it's all good.

Both of mine have appointments next week and they are only 8 :(

You are about to add four more appointments. :scared1:

:faint: Have they lost their baby teeth yet? My DD is 11 and still has 3 to go.

Mine still has some baby teeth as well. She initially had a cross bite, and her x ray showed a tooth pointing in the opposite directin. :faint: She has had many of her teeth pulled. Now, there is a spacer on both uppers/ lowers until time for braces.

OK, Can I get a show of hands of Dads who have DD's age 10/11/12? My GDD is 10 and will be 11 in Sept. I have a feeling there are a lot of Dads that will rise their hands. :lmao:

I have an 11 & 9 year old. You're older than my nemesis. :lmao:

My name is Doug....

Welcome!

Well, I'm implementing the plan. Date #1 with daughter #1 is tonight. As soon as I get home I'll pick her up and off we go. Where? School-supply shopping, of course. Not too exciting, but this kid loves school so this is right up her alley.

I'll have to check that out. It is the only way DD will ever get to go on a date until she is 32 or until I am senile.

...

Mine must still be on the mule headed East. I'll wait by the mailbox.

Sorry Paul but Fantasyland is in Orlando. You keep toying with that idea. Did not work for me and I would bet it will not work for you.

I can't believe I'm actually posting this... but I just booked a trip to the World for Dec 8 - 13! I'm so stoked! I must have caught DW in a GOOD mood today :cool1:

What a night, we got quite busy and short a person. Lots of irritating people too, people seem to be in some kind of mood.

Finally hearing that they are moving people out of my old store, that the issues between people are rough, but I said that a few years ago. :sad2: I made some lighthearted comments today on FB but the whole thread git nasty (not towards me) but I deleted anything I said before I got dragged down into it. Children posing as adults. Says the guy all geared up to go to Disney! :cool1::cool1: Three weeks from now we should be in West Virginia or Virginia resting up for the next leg. :hyper:

I get an email whenever you post so I don't miss any.

:rotfl2:

Your inbox must be full

Love the early December trips. Great weather, low crowds, Christmas spirit all around the parks. Congrats! :thumbsup2

How'd it go?

I've been trying to give my kids one-on-one time once a month. We try and go out on the date of the month that matches their birthday (my daughter was born Feb. 5, so we try and go do something on the 5th of every month, etc.). It doesn't happen every month, but the kids really look forward to it.

Awesome. I'll be there right after you from the 15th to the 20th. Still good crowds but not as good as yours. Wouldn't it be cool if you had some little trinket that you left hidden in one of the parks so the CMs wouldn't find it, but you told me where it was. Then when I'm there with my kids I could retrieve it and say, "Here ya go, kids. This is from one of the DisDads." Who's going right after me? I'll be in MK on the 20th and can leave something in a flower bed. Or maybe in the men's room like in the Godfather.:scratchin
WDW trip is in the single digits now, yeah baby:cool1:
If anyone's going to catch up to Stopher and Zerfs, it's you.

Great. I called her from work. "Anna, this is Daddy. Would you want to go on a date with me tonight? Great! I'll pick you up around 5:30." When I got home I sneaked in to the yard, clipped a nice flower and went to the front door to ring the door bell. We never use the front door so I thought that would be special. My cutie was all cleaned up and wearing a nice dress. She loved the flower even though she knew exactly where it came from. Mom took our picture, put the flower in a vase, and off we went. First stop Walmart. We returned a few things got her supplies and wandered the toy and game aisles and just chatted. Then to Barnes and Noble to browse books and buy her a treat. We sat down in the Starbucks in there and each had a Reeses peanut butter cup cookie and just talked. Took her home and asked if she would want to go on another date sometime to which she said yes. All in all a good start. There's definitely something special about doing stuff with just one kid at a time.

Hmmm... I'm pretty sure that can be arranged :wizard: I'll enlist DD and see what we come up with :)

 Awesome stuff right there. Good job, dad! :thumbsup2
