DIS Dads DDC XVII - Leap year edition

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Well, we did one ADR, Kona, Saturday morning before we drive down to Fort Lauderdale.

Another DVC ownage.

Affordability is not an issue here, but she is pretty frugal. if she likes the room and experience better than just booking a regular vacation with disney then we're in. If not then it will be a no. I"m a little easier to jump on board with this than she will be. Either way we will go to disney once or twice a year.:thumbsup2

same here. Renting points for next trip maybe that will tip the scale. We can't seem to decide one way or another

I don't think putting her in a DVC room will change her mind, it's about the money.

Didn't mean to start a DVC discussion. Just happy. But, I will give you my thoughts.

We are studio people. I would love to do 1 BR all the time, but we don't have enough points. We also enjoy Disney for other than the parks. We like DTD, like great food, and the offerings of the resorts. Thus, when we go to the park, we are there all day, but then stay at the resort, swim, shop, stroll, sun, and/or go out to eat at signature dining the next day. And, we liked the all star resorts, but they did not have the amenities like a DVC resort.

With DVC, it's not about the extra space, but the extra nice resort and extra special location. Owning at SSR gives me a walk to DTD (our first DVC resort). Owning at BLT gives a front seat for fireworks at MK (my favorite resort), a monorail flight into Epcot, and easy to enjoy all the monorail resorts. Hopefully, owning at BWV gives me walking access to Epcot, a boat ride to DHS, and all the entertainment of the Boardwalk area.

So, while the cost issue is significant, we purchased small contracts via the resale market and now have enough for our needs. And, we get the extras we really want. When our dds no longer go with us, I can envision a trip with no park tickets and enjoy the DVC resorts.

For all those considering, Stopher has been providing great info on the Dad's DVC discussion thread. I am happy to add my $.02 there as well.

For now I feel pretty good about getting her to buy AP's for us.

We still won't do APs. Maybe one year.

Norm,

Nice score on the points!

Thanks. And, great emoticon.

Awesome!

That is a nice reason to cancel a trip. :cool1:

Congrats on the 100 posting yesterday. :thumbsup2

Thanks.

Spreading the love between resorts & trips :thumbsup2 - that's how we do it too. Very nice.

Only thing is that I will now have a different UY on the BWV resort. But, it was still to good a deal to pass up. I'm sure I'll adjust. But, that will be enough points to cover our stay there, so hopefully, I won't need to worry about booking with different UY.

That is great. Sounds like you have enough points to house some DisDad refugees :lmao:

i am in need of asylum :rotfl2:

Not quite that many points. I can send you a post card, but that's about it. Hopefully, that lottery plan will come through.

You want to do a bunch of post padding?

;)

Yes. And, thanks for the congrats post. I missed that in my multi-quote click.

Dinner in eastern KY is venison roast and corn bread.

Probably sounds better than deer meat. Hey, what's the difference between beer nuts and deer nuts? Beer nuts are $1.50 and deer nuts are under a buck.

Randall is just warming up for his Leap Day extravaganza:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

If I remember correctly KY kicked our butt at KY. Florida is pretty weird this year. Sometimes (like today) they look like they could go deep in the tournament. Occasionally they look like a NIT team. Going to get interesting tournament time.

Florida has a big lead. My dds have "Up" on, so we are watching that. FL is a contender, especially if they get on a roll.

Planning to see the Electric Water Pageant from Poly.

I like it at BLT. Got to watch it from our room window last year.

We didn't make any ADRs.

I remember our honeymoon. DW and I did not know to make ADRs, but walked up at all the restaurants. A party of 2 makes that easy.

I see he Crown Prine of Post Padding has arrived :lmao:

Randall has declared a thread closure in his own mind. He's not even waiting for the leap day thread.

Good news, bad news.

DW is seriously looking to book a trip to the world in April. :cool1:

She's on the phone now with MIL to discuss them going with us. :rolleyes1

A few years ago MIL and DW's stepdad went to DIsney same time as us, but it wasn't a joint vacation. We only met up for a few hours on a couple of days etc, it was their first trip in years. Not a problem for us.

Of course, now they're DVC members, and are going next month, we gotta wait till next year, oh well...:lmao:

Excuse me but I must correct an erroneous statement that was made by someone who was misinformed. SWMBO (She Who MUST Be Obeyed) is from one of the greatest British dramas to be shown on this side of the puddle. I am referring of course to the great RUMPOLE of the BAILEY. SWMBO is the only way I believe that Rumpole refers to his wife in the show.

I believe British humor is like their cuisine, dull and lacking. The British dramas on the other hand are usually better written and directed than what we get here. And when we do copy one of theirs, ours is a pale imitation, due mostly to censorship laws and the desire of Hollywood to pander to the biggest dollar.

Enough soapboxing now.

We had a great basketball game today and cruised to an easy win. Oldest dd scored half team points and just dominated on defense.

I see I can't step away from here for more than an hour at a time, huh Randall? :confused3
