DDA Chapter 8

Sounds like a pretty good trip overall, Elizabeth. :wizard: for your cousin's DH. Sounds like they caught it early enough, but how scary. I hope that in the end your sister comes to an understanding of things and an acceptance of their importance versus her activities. Based on other things you've said, I'm not sure there is, but is there any possibility that it's a form of denial and if she worries about how to get to band camp maybe mom's cancer doesn't seem like such a big deal? Good luck to you all. :grouphug:

In some very deep part of her brain it could be that she has decided to ignore Mom's diagnosis and plow ahead, because everyone knows if you pretend something isn't true then it isn't! And if she had some COUNSELING she might be able to face it with some more clarity. But we all know how likely that is. I don't know her well enough to know how her mind works. On the surface she is SO selfish and shallow! She is also relatively immature for a 16 year old. She's intelligent, but that gets lost in the whining and demanding.

Morning everyone! I hope all of you are doing well. I am sitting and waiting for the glass repair people to come and fix my windshield. I have a time frame of 8am to noon, so I may be sitting awhile.

Hope all of you have a good day.

Unfortuantely, I think you've hit the nail on the head with the counseling part. If only, it could actually happen. I would say "I hope the doctor's recommend it to your mom", but that wouldn't help either.

Here's a post I posted on TPAS. Anyone here have any thoughts? After crunching the numbers last night, I'm pretty sure we're going to move to Sept thanks to the appox $600 savings with free dining over our Dec costs. I've got to double check the numbers still, but I guess we'll be gearing up for hotter temps and MNSSHP. (Jennifer - if we change our dates, I think that means we overlap again if you want to try and meet up.)

Okay, guys I really need some help. Looks like we are going to take advantage of free dining and move our trip from Dec to Sept. I currently have Sept 12-21 booked, but have always wanted to go to Food and Wine Festival. I am considering pushing my dates back to 19-28. However, I fully expect that the first weekend is going to be really crowded. So, just how crowded is it?!?!

Our situation...
- Those days will be just me and DD5.
- We'll have already spent 6-7 in the parks by now and will have done most of our biggies
- If we hit Epcot those days it will only be to do Food and Wine Festival booths (with a little Kidcot or country touring thrown in during digestion ;) )

So....do I move our trip back a week to finally get to do F&WF or do I wait for some unknown point in the future (probably a few years) when I can go in Oct?

Thanks!!

If you are going to go in September, Tia, I would definitely choose the F&W Festival. You are going into it knowing that the weekend will be a zoo, but if you get there and spend some of the earlier time of the day going around the booths and doing the Kidcot stops and plan to leave before mid afternoon, I think it ought to work. Maybe plan to have your lunch by eating from the kiosks.

I'm exhausted, but caught up here again. I probably won't last long, but I need a break and couldn't think of anything I'd rather do :goodvibes

We started in around 8:30 this morning. We worked ALL day and both my parents and my brother helped. The kitchen is painted and the flooring is installed in that area. I still have some touch up to do and the baseboards to reinstall, but it looks awesome. It will take days to get everything moved back in there, but it is a huge improvement over where we were. I'm hoping to get the decorative painting finished this week and then we can install the rest of the flooring on Saturday. The next 2 days are super busy with appointments, games and everyday things, but hopefully I will make progress on Thursday and Friday. I can pick away at little things the next couple of days while I'm here. Did I mention that it looks awesome. I'd post pictures, but there is still way too much mess to do so. I'm just glad to have the stove and refrigerator back in place after only 24 hours :cool1:

Good for you! It sounds like you are making great progress.

Our weekend was good.

Our flight up there was fine. I had never flown AA Eagle before. They take your carry-on away when you get on the plane! That just surprised me. There are only overhead bins on one side, so they take all the big bags and "valet" check them. When we got to KC the guy in front of me got his bag back and it was DESTROYED. He was FURIOUS! My bag was a little dirty, but not damaged.

My cousin, her DH, and their DD14 were there to greet us. We went to a museum for the Steamboat Arabia. It sank in the river in 1856, then the river changed course so it was buried in a cornfield. A group of guys dug it up in 1988 and put all of the artifacts in a museum. VERY cool! But DS was complaining of stomach pain and he looked really uncomfortable so our museum visit was cut short. It was pelvic pain, which shouldn't happen in boys so I was a little freaked out. No fever, no other pain. :confused3 We went back to the house and he rested about 10 minutes and he felt fine. We all went out for lunch, then he went home with my cousin's DD & DH and she and I went to Cosco. Her DH's DB & SIL came over for dinner - the guys grilled. It was fun. DS played on the trampoline, played basketball, never said his stomach hurt again. Whatever.

The next morning we went and picked up my cousin's dad and we all went to breakfast. DS loves her dad because he is an avid baseball card collector. At breakfast my cousin's DH wasn't feeling well. He took their DD back home and she took DS and me to my mom's house. My mom put 2 brand new tires on her ancient, rattletrap car instead of buying a different one. :rolleyes1 She dorve her car out to the lake and we survived, so that was good. The lake was fun. My uncle has a new pontoon boat (exactly like the Epcot cruise ones) so we took turns riding in the boat. There was also a paddle boat, fishing poles, some hammocks, lots of food, LOTS of people. When my mom's eldest sister died her DH got into a relationship with a lady who had been a dear friend of theirs for many years, and the lake cabin is hers. So I got to see 3 cousins, their kids, and a bunch of people I don't know! It wasn't nearly as hot and humid as it could have been, and we only stayed a few hours. That night I took my mom, DS and Diva Girl to Olive Garden. Then we came home and Mom and DS and I played Yahtzee. Mom's dining room table is buried under claim forms she hasn't filed. I asked her if she wanted me to help her fill them out, she said no, I let it go.

This morning my aunt was supposed to take us to Lawrence, KS because she was meeting a friend for lunch. My cousin was going to get us and take us to the airport. She lives in KC so Lawrence is closer for her than Topeka. My aunt phoned at 10 AM and said my cousin's DH was going to the ER because he felt worse and worse after breakfast on Sunday. My mom decided to drive us to the airport herself. Luckily we made it there and she made it back without her car breaking down! We got to the airport 3 hours before our flight but that wasn't too bad. On the way to the airport my cousin called and said her DH was having a heart attack! Luckily they were able to clear the blockage with a balloon (the main artery was blocked, and it had been going on since yesterday morning! :scared1: ) so he'll be in the cardiac unit a couple of days and then should be able to come home. Their DD leaves in the morning to go to FL with her friend so when I talked to my cousin tonight she was rushing to do last minute stuff for her DD.

It wasn't a bad trip. I am glad we went. Diva Girl is completely obtuse about everything - she is worried about getting to and from band camp. Hello? Our mom has CANCER. If you don't make it to band camp then you don't make it. Her attitude boggles my mind. I realized July 4 will be a 3 day weekend for me, but DH will be mad if he gets the weekend off and I leave. I told him we can all go up there but he doesn't want to spend the money on airfare. I guess we'll see what they say when Mom FINALLY has her surgical consult and go from there.

I'm glad you had a good trip. I'm sure it took a lot of self control not to jump on the pile of forms that need to be filled out, as well as on your Mom for not doing it. You deserve a pat on the back. Enjoy your time off this week! I hope your cousin's DH is much better today.

Robyn -- I hope Motrin helps her feel better and that no one else gets it.

Lindsay -- I'm so sorry about the kidney stones. Not a good way to start a holiday weekend. I hope you are feeling better.

Tammi -- I rarely go in to Target for less than $200. It's like those red buggies have some kind of power over me and keep asking me to "feed" them.

My car was in the shop on Thursday/Friday, but luckily I got it back late Friday. I went to the rehearsal of my niece's ballet recital that night since I couldn't go to the actual recital. I had lots of errands to run on Saturday after Jake's soccer game -- grad gifts, teacher gifts, baptistm gifts, birthday gifts, bat mitzvah plus regular supplies for home and the office. Sunday was Sunday School and Church, then we picked up three of the boys' friends and went to see Indy. I liked it, and he's still easy on the eyes. Monday was cooking -- I finished a pasta salad for dinner and also made the turkey burgers featured on Oprah's summer special, then headed in to Dallas for more errands. We cooked out early yesterday and let the boys swim, as Andrew had practice at 6.

Andrew has a game tonight at 6:30, so we'll hustle home after school to get them dressed and fed.

Have a great day everyone! :)

Hi, Marci! Those Target carts do have sort of a hypnotic effect, don't they? You just put more and more stuff in there and before you know it the total is well over $100. Happens to me ALL the time!

Tia - I asked Mom if she ever phoned the social worker at the hospital. She did, and she got the name of a lady for Diva Girl to go to. But when Mom talked to the counselor she didn't like her so that was the end of that! I told Mom to call the social worker back, tell her the first lady wasn't a good fit, and ask for more names. Nope. Mom won't call her. DH and I think that maybe Mom doesn't want her to have counseling because any counselor with half an ounce of sense is going to point out that our father was a hideous parent. Diva Girl thinks he was fabulous, and Mom wants to perpetuate that. :rolleyes1 Of course my mother would also be called out on her parenting, which is WAY too permissive and enabling. So there will be no counseling.

Tia,

Here's my vote. I would go for the F&WF. It's not that bad if you get there early & its fun to try foods from every country.

Alyssa had a spot on her tongue today. I'm hoping it's just a canker sore. What other signs should I be looking for? So far no fever.

Sounds like a fun but busy weekend.

Wow another busy weekend for you. Do the kids have sports all summer too? You must get a break at some point. I'd go bonkers being on the run all the time. I vote you world's best mom :thumbsup2

Tia I would go ahead and hit the F & Wine Festival in September. You know that it will be busy and will therefore plan for it. As long as you've done the major attractions of Epcot it won't be unbearable. You may encounter lines at the food booths, but it will be worth it if it is something that you really want to do. My family, Chris and I included, are not adventurous eaters and neither Chris or I like wine so the Food and Wine Festival is not a must do for us. We love Epcot in general, but don't find that the F&W adds to the experience for us.

Oh, dear! I hope she's not getting sick! :wizard:

I was just looking at airfare. Flights from here to KC have jumped $100 since I last looked. I paid $100 round trip the past 2 times I have gone, and now the price is $220. :faint: I am definitely NOT going up over July 4th. Hopefully I can still work it out to go up for Mom's surgery. It would cost $272 to drive up there, so for now it is still cheaper to fly. :headache:

Tammi,
Hope Alyssa is not getting sick!:wizard:

Robyn,
Hope Molly is feeling better & no one else gets it.

Elizabeth,
More:goodvibes for you & dealing with you mom.

Watch for Dings. That may be your best bet.

So my windshield is fixed. I need to change and head to the office. I want to stay home. It is so nice and quiet here with no one around. I have a busy week with an event tonight, Thursday night, Friday night and an event all day Saturday. So I am not really in a rush back to the office.

But I guess I need to get moving. Have a great day everyone.
