:headache:Ouch:headache:

I heard at work last night that people are not getting back nearly as much in refunds this year compared to previous years due to Obama's plan :sad2: I don't want specifics, but did you notice a difference?

We're actually getting more this year than last year. I think that is mostly because we made more this year than last year, but don't make enough to kick us out of the earned income credits, etc. We did pretty well, which is good because we could really use it for a few things.

Debbie, Aubrey is precious!! :goodvibes

Our refund is $33 less, but we made more money.

I went round and round trying to figure out that "Making Work Pay" thing. :headache:

They took LESS out of our checks, which upped what we were taking home. To offest the decrease in withholding, they gave us an $800 "Making Work Pay" Credit that gets added to the withholding from your paychecks when you figure your taxes. Um, excuse me? Didn't we essentially just go around in a big circle? :confused3

I am guessing the reason for the lower refund is because the $800 credit was lower than what we would have had held out if they wouldn't have messed with it. I would have MUCH RATHER had $800 added to our refund, or had an $800 check. But they are right - we didn't notice the extra in our checks so it's gone now!

Yet another snow day here..are they kidding?? It stopped snowing on Saturday! The streets are clear! ugh! I do not mind the snow days but now they will have to use the "snow make up days" which one is Presidents day (ok fine), but the other is the day after Easter break...we are in Disney & that means they will miss that day of school. I didn't want them to miss any more days...:headache:

Theresa,
:wizard: for the surgery.

Debbie,
She is such a cutie pie!

Becky,
Feel better.

Jen,
Hope mom enjoys her day!

Deb,
Don't get me started on the taxes.

Glynis,
Hope everyone feeling better.

Janet,
Good luck with the new registers.

I feel your pain, Anne-Marie. We have a snow day here too. Yesterday they were already off for a teacher workday, but they should be in school today. Yes, there is melting and refreezing at night, so I would understnad a 2hr delay. But they have to wait until every piece of ice is off of the road. The side streets are still dicey, but not by any means impassable or treacherous. Drivers just need to use some caution and common sense, neither of which seems to be a commodity these days. This wouldn't irritate me so badly if our school system was not trying to push the start of school up to the week before Labor Day. Their reasoning.....because that will give students 5 more days of prep before the SOLs. Hello!!! SOLs are in May. If they haven't gotten it in 8 months of instructions, they won't get it with 5 additional days!!!! How about not canceling school at the drop of a snowflake?! Then we would have 5 additional days!!!!! Sorry. Vent over.

Plus, we are supposed to get another inch of stuff tonight, so I'm sure that means school will be canceled tomorrow. And more stuff coming this weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't go back before next week.

Our weather has to be almost deadly before they will cancel. We only have ONE ice day built into the calendar. After that day is gone they extend the school year into June. Which won't work for us, because the day after school gets out we will be on a plane to WDW. We haven't used our ONE ice day yet, but we tend to get bad weather in February. Hopefully we won't have more than one cancellation, if any.

We have had 24 inches of snow, measured at the airport, so far this winter, which is more than the past 3 winters combined. It is also 15 inches above average. And we have 6 more weeks of winter.

One of the reasons our county has been so careful lately is the accidents that have occurred with busses as well as private automobiles, one of which was deadly. I understand the need to have the kids in school. I wish they did a better job of clearing the roads, though. Tammi knows how close to a main thoroughfare I live, but my road is in atrocious shape! I am betting her subdivision is better than mine. I figure of things are this bad this close to town, it has to be really bad further out in the county.

By the way, Tammi - I heard that they have upped the amount of snow they are calling for tonight now. Maybe up to 6 inches!

Stupid rodent!

The Today show was saying that even if it was the cloudiest darkest day he would see his shadow because of all the media coverage complete with lights :headache:

Of course he saw his shadow. They shine giant spotlights on the poor, sleepy guy. ;)

Beth must have seen it too :rotfl:

I'm glad that it worked out for someone.

Elizabeth, I'm glad yours was close too. Maybe there is hope for the rest of us.

Here is a photo Kristin and Ashley found from a "few" years ago:

Miss America is at the left and Kristin is right behind her. :)

I didn't see the Today Show, but I've seen footage of Phil making his prediction before.

Our book at preschool today was Punxsutawney Phyllis. Phyllis correctly predicts a very rare early Spring and is allowed to take over for her Uncle Phil even though the job usually passes to a boy.

Our tax refund was about half what it was last year. However, that was the plan! I have a flat rate taken out of my paycheck and we made an adjustment requesting that less be deducted this year, so we were excpecting it to be less.
