Boy will I be glad when this election is over....so far my mother has threatened to move back to germany if her candidate doesn't win....and Bill is just a big spaz already

This is my mantra this morning:

I love my dog, she can't tell time... I love my dog, she can't tell time... I love my dog, she can't tell time... I love my dog, she can't tell time... I love my dog, she can't tell time... :rolleyes2

:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: We have to remind ourselves of that sometimes, don't we?

Good morning! I've got to get Alan out of bed so he can go vote before work. If he doesn't get it done then, he won't be able to vote at all. Being in the news business, this is the busiest day!!!! He'll be at work from 7:30 a.m. until about 2:00 tomorrow morning. No lunch or dinner break, but since he's covering election results, he'll get to eat at one of the parties.

I'll go vote as soon as I get the kids out the door. Since it's raining cats and dogs here now, I'll probably drive them to school instead of having them stand out in the rain, waiting for the bus. The polling location is at the jr. high, just down the street from their school, so it should work out!

We drove past the church that is our assigned polling place on the way to take DS to school and it was deserted! I guess since tens of thousands of people stood there for countless hours last week that nobody is left to vote today! :rotfl2: It turns out that DS's school is also a polling place. Drop-off wasn't TOO bad, although there were cars parked in the carpool circle.

I took Leighanna to school and spoke with her teacher this morning. Leighanna has tested well enough that her teacher is recommending Leighanna to start the "accelerated learning" or gifted program. (I think that is what she called it. )
Hopefully this will also help her not to be so talkative in class too. Leighanna always finishes her assignments earlier than most of the others, and gets bored and starts to act up.
I am proud of her for doing so well. I just hope that she can handle the extra work, and that she continues to do well in her studies.

Gifted programs can be good or not so good, depending on how they are structured. In elementary my gifted program was a "pull out" where one day each week we went to the Gifted teacher for the entire day. I loved it! In middle school Gifted was completely sequestered - all core subjects were with the same group of about 15 kids. We had one teacher for math & science, another for English & history. It was a little too much togetherness for my taste. It was very competitive and there was a lot of backstabbing and snarking. Middle school is bad enough, but being in that very compartmentalized environment made it worse. In 8th grade I dropped Gifted science because it conflicted with orchestra. I LOVED being in an honors science class. In 9th grade I dropped out of Gifted completely because I just hated it.
At DS's elementary Gifted was during specials. He tested for Gifted but he wasn't on meds for his ADD yet so he didn't get in. I am pretty sure he would have qualified if he had been able to pay attention during the different phases of testing. Gifted in middle school is an elective. The kids he knows who took Gifted last year said it was mostly projects (we need more freaking projects like we need holes in our heads) and many of them dropped it this year. Since PE is required they only get one elective this year. He is much better off in Band than he would be in Gifted. ;)
Since Leighanna is so young I would hope the accelerated work would be fun and interesting. :thumbsup2

Katrina, Chuck and I are off to vote. Hopefully, we have missed all those voting before work. I usually go a little later than this but want to get it done so I can get packed and hit the road for Lansing.

Sounds like most voting hasn't been too bad so far. I'm waiting for the baby to get here and then we'll head to the polls. Kristi voted earlier and it was just under and hour from when she called me leaving her house to go there until she called me already halfway to Chick Fil A for breakfast afterward.

Don't forget your free opportunities today...

Tall brewed coffee at Starbucks when you tell them you voted.
Free sweet tea at McAlister's - if that is anywhere except St. Louis
Some Chick Fil As are doing a free chicken sandwich.
Free ice cream at Ben and Jerry's from 4pm to 8pm (I think that was the times)

I left home about 15 minutes early and stopped off and voted and even though I stood in the wrong precinct line to start with it took me less than 10 minutes. There was exit polling being done by a group hoping people were voting for a certain amendment that I am vehemently against so I am sure they weren't happy with my poll answers.

Hooray for Leighanna! I think it's just what she needs. She's so smart she needs to be stimulated like this. It will probably be tough for the first little while, but she should be just fine once she settles into it.

I hear ya! This is one day I'm glad that Alan won't be home! I don't think I could stand listening to him for any amount of time!

My cats cannot tell time either :lmao:
They want to say hi every time I wake up or come home and you would think they were dogs too!!!!!!

so I finally had my last straw with one gentlemen (I use the term loosely) at work yesterday and since his official superior is a wonderful man but like talking to a dense brick wall in reprimanding this man, I took it to the next step which is SPRC. I just got their response......take it up with Richard next week. :headache: :headache: :headache: Not that I needed another reminder of why I am looking for another job but when the Staff Parish Relations Council...the hiring, firing arm of the church is so ineffectual it just makes me want to cry out of frustration.

aint it the truth...I wish I could send Bill somewhere. I am going to make everyone go to the nature center so we can enjoy the last of the nice weather. hopefully it will serve as a short diversion.

or it could be like Abi....take to it like a duck to water and then constantly still searching for more things to do. I have a strange kid!!

Yeah for Leighanna....I hope this is the key to her schooling.

Perhaps Bill can go help your mom pack?

Theresa, I am so sorry. Want me to fill in for you today and you can go to cooking with Princess?

Hi gals and guys....

I've been reading here and there when I get a chance. Between painting and all of the activities, meetings, church and ,oh yeah, those kids that I get paid to watch I haven't had much DIS time.

My painting is almost done. My LR only needs 1 1/2 walls left. My DR has 2 walls and then the wall above the plate rack. It looks so nice and I can't wait til it's all finished.

Sunday evening we had our Girl Scout pow wow. We had a ton of fun together, there are 4 moms and the 1 dad (the dad who returned from Iraq in the spring). We all are on the same page and are looking forward to all that we can accomplish with the girls. It was very enlightening to say the least. The dad and one of the other mom's is meeting with the leader Wednesday night to finalize what will be said to the girls on Thursday. The spent 2 hours on the phone with her last night so the groundwork has been laid. The cookie money was a sore issue, the leader said "Well I don't have to give it to you because it belongs to Troop 105, but I wouldn't feel right" She is a nut case. We should once we've split off have close to $600 in start up funds.

Last night Dana and I took the girls to see HSM3. Everyone enjoyed it although it was a bit cheesy. Emma starts hand bell practice tonight. And at some point I need to vote.

That's great, Tom! Sounds like you have a little brainiac on your hands. As far as handling the extra work, I've learned from experience that it is usually more for the PARENTS as well! But since there is 2 of you and 1 of her, I think you'll all be fine! :thumbsup2

I've resigned myself to let it go. It's out of my hands so why freak out over it.

I would love to go cooking with Princess...unlike you I love the kitchen...my job not so much. But it just wouldn't work out...I wouldn't wish my job on my own worst enemy.

Theresa, I think I am meaner than you. At the very least I would make those people sorry for trying to cross me! :rotfl2:

as I told my mom last night.....it takes a lot to get me angry but you don't want to be the one who sends me over the edge.
