DDA Chapter 13

Chuck's dad passed away this morning. Chuck headed over there shortly after we found out. He will help keep the peace between his brother & sister. Chuck's mom sounded like she was doing fine. Becky is on her way up (she was already coming with her boyfriend for the week-end so that she could introduce him to Grandma & Grandpa). Katrina and I are staying here until she gets here. We'll head over tomorrow.

I am sad but we were more or less expecting this. A year ago, he had a heart attack. He decided not to have the open heart surgery and was told that it would probably be 6 months and he'd be back with another worse one. He was ready to go. He did not want to be a burden on anyone. He was still driving but had really slowed down. He got to do it his way. He has been wasting away a lot the last couple of weeks.

I'm waiting for a call from Chuck to see what is happening with the funeral arrangements.
I'm very sorry to hear this Vicki. My sympathies to you and Chuck, and the rest of your family.

Vicki, our condolences to you, Chuck, and the girls.

Jennifer, great pictures!

Robyn, thanks for checking in! Sounds like a great (and yummy) start to your trip!

Theresa, not all politicians are bad. ;) :teeth:

Heidi, I'm following your cookie thread on the CB. Yum!

Kristine, is Jonathan old enough to drink the beer he's brewing? :rotfl:

Deb, hope you have a great trip! :wizard:

Thank you for all your prayers for Barbie. I did not check in with her today, but I've been encouraging friends and co-workers to set up a calendar for making meals, cleaning her house, etc.

We made some sugar cookies today...the kind where you just add an egg and butter to the mix. I cheated on the frosting too, using the premade tubed stuff. :rotfl:

Kev surprised us with Disney on Ice tickets for tomorrow morning. We had talked about it, but I thought we had scrapped the idea. It should be fun!

Time to give baths to extra-sugary children. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

The car is packed and the kids are bathed. We just have the last minute items to put in our carryons and we're good to go :cool1: I hope that we haven't forgotten anything major. We'll have a couple of days to hit a store if need be before the cruise. The house is almost cleaned. I haven't hit the bathroom, but they'll just have to wait as I'm not in the mood for it. I did change all the beds though :thumbsup2

Have a blast Deb!!!!!!!!

We just got home from dinner..went out to Fridays. Gotta get the kids in the shower. Can't wait til we have 2 bathrooms!

Today is the 20th anniversary of our first date.

Vicki - Please give Chuck our condolences.

Mac - I didn't realize the deficit was 2 years running. I thought it was $64 million when they discovered it and $84 million by the time they did anything to stop it from growing.

Anne Marie - Happy first date anniversary!

Princess came to the Homecoming parade with me. She was PETRIFIED. She was shaking and screaming. It was really not good. The kids on the floats were throwing candy, cheering, etc. She was completely unglued. The lady next to us gave her a lollipop, but she was still scared. When DS came by with his drum she stopped fussing for about 15 seconds, but once he was out of sight she was screaming again. :sad2:

I just called Lindsay on her cell phone since I hadn't heard from her. I left her another voice mail.

Thanks to everyone for their good thoughts for Kathrin. She has sent out 30 resumes today already and has contacted the head hunter who had called her. She is a little blue tonight, but overall optimistic. :goodvibes

I am not going to go into any more of what she told me on here. I don't know whether or not she signed a confidentiality agreement with them when she accepted the job. Suffice it to say that it does not look good for the company. They may have done her a favor cutting her loose now.

here's the wikipedia list
1 New York City Department of Education New York 1,014,058
2 Los Angeles Unified School District California 727,319
3 Chicago Public Schools Illinois 420,982
4 Miami-Dade County Public Schools Florida 362,070
5 Clark County School District Nevada 294,131
6 Broward County Public Schools Florida 271,630
7 Houston Independent School District Texas 210,292
8 Hillsborough County Public Schools Florida 193,757
9 School District of Philadelphia Pennsylvania 184,560
10 Hawai'i Department of Education Hawaii 182,818
11 Orange County Public Schools Florida 175,609
12 School District of Palm Beach County Florida 174,935
13 Fairfax County Public Schools Virginia 163,753
14 Dallas Independent School District Texas 161,244

It actually has you all as 14th.

The one ranked highest in Colorado is #34 and is the one that butts up to LPS on the west....actually the other 3 districts that are in the top 100 and in Colorado kind of box us in. Denver PS actually is one district over to the north of us, but Englewood is a dying city so I don't know how their schools are going to survive.

Fairfax is just north of us and Tammi knows it very well!

No, but that sounds delicious. :drinking1

Colby says those are awesome :rotfl:

Open House Punch

1 bottle (750 ml size) Southern Comfort
6 ounces lemon juice
6 ounces can frozen lemonade
6 ounces can frozen orange juice
3 liters 7Up/Sprite

Directions:

Chill ingredients. Mix first 4 ingredients in a large punch bowl. Add 7Up/Sprite. Float block of ice, garnish with fruit slices.

I am glad Colby liked the smileys!

I just got off the phone with her again and there is even more slime than I knew (and the HR department is the slimiest of them all) but I need to wait to post anything else because everyone is going to kill me as it is!! :rotfl: Suffice it to say, they may have inadvertently done her a favor.

She is eligible for unemployment if she needs it too but the head hunter has two open positions to discuss with her this afternoon.

I hope she finds something before she needs unemployment, but am glad to hear it is an option. In Texas, you have to have done something really horrible (and documented) not to get it. The same type of thing happened to Randy a couple of years ago. They cut him because his salary could pay for two people just out of school. I find it hard to believe that extra manpower, but with no experience at all, were able to do the same level of job, but companies only look at the bottom line of salary, and not what kind of work they are getting from their employees...

Vicki -- I'm so sorry. Please know you are all in my prayers. I hope that Chuck is able to help calm the situation and doesn't become a target himself.

Deb -- have a terrific trip!
