Kristine, your PM box is now full I replied that I'll check Kyle's schedule, I'd love to go to the event if we can stay the extra day. We wanted to anyway, if it's possible, but I'm not sure if he's covered.

Oh, right, instrument rentals.
Last year we rented a drum pad, stand and a small set of bells from the music store. It was $22 per month, auto-billed to my credit card. IF we had chosen to pay on it for 18 consecutive months we would have owned them, but I gave them back at the end of the year. So that cost me almost $200.

This year we bought a drum pad, stand, and bell mallets for a total of $85, so we own all that stuff. We also own 2 sets of drum sticks. We rented a snare drum for $30 from the school, and DS will keep that all year. I WOULD have done that last year but the instrument rental form is VERY confusing and it does not say that percussion kits are offered through the school! The band director said DS is welcome to check out a bell set to use at home any time, or he can stay after school to practice on the big sets. Right now they are just doing drum stuff, so no need to have bells at home.

When I played cello in middle school I had one to use at school and one to use at home, all free of charge. The kids who had violins and violas carried them back and forth.

We have a GE Profile dishwasher. I'm not sure what qualifies as "Bells & Whistles". I think ours is fairly straightforward, with a few different cycles but all ones we use. We put it in the finished house though, so I have never shopped for one and checked out the options.

ETA: It washes great, and is quiet -- I would definitely make sure, as was mentioned, that you get a quiet one!

Hey, Theresa! I just got an e-mail asking me to come to Colorado to help campaign for Barack Obama! I have absolutely no idea why they are recruiting Texans to go to Colorado. If a Texan showed up at your door would that be more convincing than somebody from your own state?

What's funny is that I just read an article for DS's project about how the Obama campaign is pulling Texas Dems to go to other states instead of leaving them here to help in state races. I guess Obama had said he would help other Dems with their bids to secure seats in largely Republican states, but now he is scooping up all the TX Dems and sending them off to NM and CO and other states. Odd. Very odd.

I'm not coming to Colorado, but I thought you might want to be on the look-out for Texans.

DS wore leggings the year he was Peter Pan. I think that was 1st grade, though.

I am going to guess they're asking for Texans because we are a heavily republican state but also a swing state because we have been voting more democrats in to local and national offices. Sorry, but we don't need anymore Texans here, it's almost ski season so the Texan skiiers are on their way.

We have a Whirlpool Quiet Partner II & I do not recommend it. It has broken twice (in 3 years) & the inside corrideded some of the sticks on the bottom (to hold plates up) have broken off. It's also not that quiet.

No one here can ever forget 9/11. So many fireman & police were dispatched from my town. Everyone here knows someone that was there. We heard sirens all day long. They locked down our schools...it was a terridble day for so many. We have a memorial stone on the main street for all of those who did not return from our area.

Good afternoon, DDA!

Well, I sent the car to work with Phil so we'd be "forced" to stay home and then Kristi called to see if we wanted to go to Chick-fil-A for breakfast. So, she picked up Terra, Mom and me and we had breakfast and the kids played. I have managed to finish the laundry though. Plus, all of the papers for Terra's autograph cards are cut. I just need to color the corners and stick it all together. Kitchen is almost clean, as is the living room. I think that about wraps up my list. Tomorrow I'm going to sew my Minnie Mouse skirt, the trick or treat bags and Terra has two shirts she wants to do the shoe print painting (was it you that did those, Tammi?) on. She is dying for a peace sign shirt and the other will be Mickey. Man, I've got to quit typing this out as I keep thinking of more things I need to do tomorrow the longer I type.

Jennifer - How's your finalizing, planning, packing, etc coming?

Janet - We are eating at Tusker House. I'll make a note about the bread.

Good afternoon.... Eric had to go back to work after picking up Emma up from school. I am hopeful he gets home in time for me to leave for Girl Scouts. Of course tonight is my night to lead so it would be best if Mo and Lucy aren't there!

Emma came home with lots of thoughts, questions and info on 9/11. She was just under 2 when it happened so it's interesting to see her gain a little bit better perspective these past few years.

DS said they watched a video about 9/11 in History today. Not sure what he thinks about it, though.
We heard some of the news on the radio on the way to school the day it happened but we had no idea how serious it was. The DJs on the radio were kind of joking about it because there was a statement about checking the "list" of hijacked aircraft, like there were lots of them. Which we all thought was ridiculous. How many could there POSSIBLY be? Well, we found out soon enough. I felt kind of funny about leaving DS and my charges at school, but the director said she would call us if the boys needed to go home. My boss was at the school for a meeting so I figured she could grab them if they needed to be grabbed. I went home and watched the coverage on TV. The Dadboss I had at the time was at a conference in DC and they weren't told ANYTHING. He called at lunch and I said something about "no flights". He was completely clueless, then completely boggled. It was tricky for him to get back home.

Well, I was wrong about Ike, I didn't think we would feel the effects. But we are now under a Tropical Storm warning, we already have some local flooding and we've had a couple of feeder bands pass through the area.

Our schools were locked down also--we live close to a military base and they were only letting the "base kids" leave and they were not allowed to drive, but had to go on a bus that was searched numerous times. My dad came to our school to see my brother and I in case he got dispatched to NYC --he ended up not being able to go due to an injury, but many of "our" firemen went up there. Also, where i live, many people commute to NYC for work--several parents of my peers were in the WTC..
