Jennifer I can also tell that you've put a lot of work into the clues. I thought that a lot of the first groups were really easy, but I'm not sure if those were for a crossword ? or what. I guess you'll find out once they are made up. I always pull things together for the plane and or car, but we never end up using any of it. We just go with the flow which may be music on the radio or great conversation. We've carried our dvd players several times and the kids were more interested in looking out the window then watching a dvd

Jen - Wow! 22 is a LOT of kids! DS had 14 in his K class, but that was private school. I *think* the public schools can go up to 24 according to TX law, but I am not sure what a "normal" size class for public K would be. I am pretty sure Dallas ISD is all full-day K.

Not to put too fine a point on my political views, but can someone please explain to me how the talking head news guys think voters will flock to Palin because she is a GIRL? Yes, Hillary is a girl and not in the running anymore, but they are polar opposites on issues! Are Americans really so overwhelmingly stupid that they think all girls are interchangeable? Are there really voters who will vote for Palin based exclusively on gender?

um... yes But there are those with intelligence who will vote for the candidate AND the running mate because of their values and their thoughts on how to make this great nation even better. What we really have to worry about is whether or not those voters outnumber the first group in November.

yes the first 2 were crosswords. Last time Jeff flipped thru a magazine and listened to music. Olivia colored and watched a video. Me I tried to keep the migraine away. Every time I fly I get horrible Headaches.

Well, the boy on MSNBC right now is saying that Democrats won't automatically vote for her based exclusively on gender because her views are so RADICALLY different than Hillary's. So at least ONE commentator gets it. But now some other boy is talking over him and I can't understand ANY of them.

Are there really only 67 days until the election?

ditto and added prayers to Debbie that Gustav weakens. I was so proud of Robin Roberts on GMA this morning...she got ticked that all anybody was mentioning was New Orleans and made sure to tell the audience to remember everybody else that could be affected by the storm!!

I loved the other thread we both commented on that this was brought up on.

As I was explaining to my volunteer....I will vote for a woman if I feel she is the best qualified for the position. Jim was very surprised the first time I voted for a man over a woman...he too had that train of thought...I told him I didn't like her views and I didn't think she was qualified...I was right and she was out after her 1st term.

A follow-up to my long tale this morning. Our organization is not a business per-se, any more than the PTA is a business. With a membership of 155,000+ musicians and non-musicians who love and support the performing arts, NFMC is a non-profit organization and the largest philanthropic musical organization in the world. We give out hundreds of thousands of dollars annually ($750,000 last year) in scholarships and awards to children and young people. Anyone who holds an office of any kind is unpaid. The only salaried people connected to the Federation are administrative and support staff at our national headquarters in Indianapolis.

There are no salaried positions in our state group at all. We are all volunteers who care. We are all friends and will remain so once the initial strain is over. We will all continue to be the leaders in the organization because it is important to us. But the discussions of the past two days were hurtful to everyone involved because business had to enter into it. And it was the voting of people like me not to pay the honoraria that caused problems. That was strictly a financial decision on my part as well as that of the others who voted to stop the payments. It was the emotional side of it that allowed the recommendation of the Finance Committee and Executive Board (both upon which I serve) to be voted down. It was also the voting of people who had no idea at all how the organization is funded or run.

The money I was discussing this week is an anomaly in our Virginia Federation and pertains to only this term of office. Normally our $100,000 operating budget allows us to take in enough money to give out our share of scholarships and keep money in the bank for operating expenses. The term of the national president it for two years with a second term possible. The worst case scenario will be 4 years of these payments. Someone will come up with a way to fund them I am certain. I firmly believe that it will be the president. She has already returned her honorarium for 2008. Although that $1500 will not cover the 11 appointed offices she chose, it went a long way toward offering a solution.

22 is about right around here for a LARGE class and I have no doubt Miss Jennifer can do it....but what would have the class size been WITHOUT that grant??

I agree that Gustav is going to demand our attention, regardless of who is running for which office. I hope something happens to make the system weaker, but I am not a meteorologist so I don't know if that is even possible. I guess they currently think it will hit to the west of NO as a category 3?

Well, at this point, I don't know who I'll vote for. I need to do some major researching candidates, policies, etc. However, in answer to your question, I would never vote for someone just on the basis of their gender/race/religion, etc. In the long run of things, those things just don't make a difference to me in how a person governs. What does make a difference to me is what the person stands for, how well he/she stands by their positions, and how effective I think that person would be in a given job.

Wow! Only 24 in a class!!! I was thinking she was getting off lightly with 22. The twins were in a class with 28 kids. That's about standard here in Utah. When I taught English in high school, I never had a class under 30 students. 22 would have been a walk in the park!!!

With us it's been a roller coaster ride so far. Jacob and the twins are having a ball, but Katie will have a good day, then a bad day, then a good day, etc. It all depends on how much math homework she has. The stupid thing is that she knows how to do the math, but talks herself out of it, and then nothing that Alan or I can do will help her. She just closes off. I told her yesterday that if she needs math help, she needs to ask one of the 5 friends in her class that live in our neighborhood! They might have more patience for her "mood swings" than I do!

It really takes a certain type of person to be able to make wise fincial decisions without putting any emotion into it. You are much too caring for that role.

Boy oh boy do I have you all fooled! I can be a very hard nosed (I wanted to put another word in here but the DIS only printed *****) business woman. I voted to discontinue payment of those honoraria without regret.

Oh, it wasn't really a question. I think all of the DDA are intelligent enough to recognize that these 2 women are NOT the same just because they are both women.

It just seems that the media is CERTAIN that "everyone" who was supporting Hillary will now be falling over themselves to vote for Palin. What sort of asinine logic is THAT? If a candidate is the antithesis of everything I believe in then I don't think I would vote for her exclusively because it is a HER. But apparently there are people who will? They need their voting privileges revoked! Vote for the candidate who represents your beliefs, not the candidate who has the same body parts!

Hillary already released a statement. I kind of hope she keeps releasing statements making it clear that a vote for Palin is NOT the same as a vote for her, just in case anyone is confused.

On Elizabeth's train of thought I am going to jump......I am THRILLED that the DNC wrapped up last night!! It's been a rip roaring wierd time in CO...though if it works out right LHS might get some of the windfall to help pay for their trip to Takiyama, Japan next summer

Denver is the official sister city to Takiyama and we've been told that if we wait until after the DNC and find out the amount the city brings in we might be able to convince them to pay for some of the trip. There is a great relationship between Takiyama and all of Metro Denver. We were the host school for Takiyama's visit last year and they've specifically asked for us and have already started to plan for the first ever parade in all of Japan.

To top it off, Don is trying to get a dual performance for us at Tokyo Disney!!

But if we can't get the city/business help we more than likely can't send the kids as it would be almost $3000 a kid.
