DD2 has decided it is time!!

I have been trying on and off to potty train DD2, with no luck and her stubborn attitude I had about given up. I had noticed over the past 2 weeks she was waking up dry and she had about 40 pairs of cute panties that were handed down from her sister but all very clean, so we tried the big girl panty route...NO GO!!! I took her to the store on Monday and I asked her if she would like to pick out some NEW big girl panties and she said, "YES"..I explained to her that she would have to go to the potty and not get those dirty and she said OK!! Well we began on Monday and she has only had one accident (diarrhea) because she couldn't get to the potty fast enough. She is dry when she wakes up in the AM as well!!! I still put a pull up on her when we leave the house because I just got a new car and I REALLY love the way it smells..don't want to ruin that smell.. Anyway just wanted to share my good news and please pray that it LASTS!!!!

Congratulations to both of you!!! What a huge milestone!!!

I have one suggestion for when you use the Pull-Ups. I work with special needs preschool kids and potty training can be difficult. We suggest to the parents that if they're going to use a Pull-Up, put a pair of underwear on underneath them. That way, if the child has an accident she will immediately feel the wetness but you will keep your car and furniture dry. Pull-Ups keep kids feeling dry and comfortable and if you want her to totally give up the diapers, you want her to feel the wetness and want to be changed. Eventually, she'll stop having accidents in the Pull-Ups too and you can completely switch to underwear. This is a method for keeping the potty training moving while still using the occasional Pull-Up when you need to.

It's really true that kids have to make the decision to potty train when they're ready. Your DD just proved that theory!!!

I was going to say that too LuvBunny!!! Going back and forth between pull ups and panties, even if just in the car is going to be a little confusing. I work with special needs kiddos as well and we always reccommend that once you go panties, try and go all the way. They sometimes see pull ups as an "ok" to not use the potty. So put those undies on first and let her know that she needs to keep them dry and tell you when she has to go even with a pull up on!

I think it's GREAT that she made such a big girl decision! Praise her like MAD when she wakes up dry. Praise her out of the blue for being such a big girl and keeping her new undies dry!!! Sometimes a new pair of undies makes all the difference!!!

Wel yesterday when I took her in the car I put her real panties on and then the pull up over it. She did not pee in them so today we will go without. I have looked her carseat over and figured out how to get the liner off in case an accident does occur so I can wash it. OH and... It is the cutest thing to watch her wave "bye bye" to her pee pee in the toilet.

Congrats on getting your little one to potty train! If you're worried about the carseat getting pee'd on, then you might want to buy a liner they sell on OneStepAhead that goes where they sit and absorbs that and you take it out and wash it for the next trip. Before we go for a short trip out I always make her sit on the potty to be sure she doesn't have to go. Most of the time she'll tinkle a little. When we get to where we're going I always ask if she has to go then too. I always carry an extra set of clothes and undies and pull up just in case though. She's 2 and she just made up her mind to do it as well. We still put her into a pull up at night, even though most of the time she wakes up dry. I just want her to get good at one thing and then when the day time thing is covered, then we'll switch to undies at night.

My DD also go to go shopping and pick out Tinkerbell and Dora undies! She won't wet those things for anything. She's going to preschool next fall, so we were happy when she decided it was time. Then next year we're also going to WDW, so she'll be fully potty trained by that time. Yahhh Hooo!

Oops, I didn't see the part where your DD did well in the carseat with the pullup. Good job!

We went out tonight for dinner..left the house at 5:30 and got back home at 8:30 (had some other errands to run). She told me at the restaurant she needed to go and I took her and she went and then she went again when we got home. So no accidents in the car thus far. She is in the bed right now with panties on so we will see if she has another dry night or not. At least I have a plastic protector on her mattress already.. I want to avoid the pull ups as much as I can because it really upsets her if I even mention putting one on just in case. So I will hope for the BEST and if not I will be doing lots of

UPDATE!!!! We went shopping today from 10 am to 4:00 pm and she is still dry!! She went potty 3 times while we were out...WOOHOO!!!!

Our DD (almost 28 months) is now potty trained. It only took about a month. Our day care helped a lot! At home we gave her stickers when she went. She has had a few accidents, but the dirty ones have been at day care. I have been pleasantly surprised how easy it has been for us. We have only had one major outing (to the mall) and she did wear a pull up but had no accidents. Our mall has the little toilets in the family restroom like she has at day care. We leave on Wednesday for WDW and I plan to use pull ups, just to eliminate carrying a lot of extra clothes in my bag and unwanted accidents. I will be taking her to the bathroom like she has on underwear. We treat the pull up like underwear. I am bringing her panties and may use them if she does well the first few days. She is still a little leary of public toilets.

Congrats & a bit of jealousy coming from me.

My youngest wiill be one next week & I keep telling her next year at this time she better be thinking about the potty so I can have a diaper free house.

I have been changing diapers since May 2001 & I can't wait to not have to do that until I have grand kids.
