With the free DDP offered in August/Sept., I figured it was a great excuse to squeeze in one more trip before DD turns 3 and we start having to pay admission for her. Well, the way I scheduled our trip, we'll be there *during* her birthday. I didn't say anything when I booked our trip--just booked her as a 2 y.o. What a great way to spend one's birthday... But now I feel like I won't want anyone knowing it's her birthday since it's the dreaded, admission-paying 3. Anybody else had this happen? :confused3

If your child turns 3 during your trip, she will not have to pay admission to the parks, provided that she was 2 when you arrived in WDW. If you are going to be there for her birthday, you should definitely make it known and celebrate it! She will receive a B-day pin and LOTS of "Happy Birthdays" from CM"s as well as other guests. What a perfect way to make a magical vacation even more magical!

I am certain I have read (and hopefully someone will post to support this) that at disney you are classed as the age you are on book in- for example if you kid is 2 when they book in they remain cost exempt until the end of the vacation, if they are 9 on book in but turn 10 whilst there they are still classed as childfee.

As others have posted you are fine with her turning three during your trip. I imagine many of us have planned the same kind of trip. Definately get her a birthday pin from Guest Services and celebrate!! Have fun!

We did this in January, only my son was turning 10 (the age of an adult at Disney). He actually turned 10 on the 3rd day of our trip. All the CMs told us he was considered 9 for the length of the trip so we only bought him a child ticket. He wore his birthday button proudly and even got a free Mickey ice cream bar on the day of his birthday. :cool1:

Have a great trip.

Whom do you make it known to? I'd love for darling grand-daughter to receive a pin and "Happy Birthdays" from CMs!

You can pick up "Happy Birthday" pins at the Guest Relations offices near the front entrance at all the parks. My DS loved wearing his and all the special birthday wishes he got from the CMs and other visitors! He was amazed that they all knew his name! (FYI -- they write it on the buttons at Guest Relations!)

Lisa, thanks so much! I appreciate your help! :wizard:

What a great time to plan a trip for her! I think you go to the guest relations office and tell them it's her birthday, then they give you a button. Then the CM's who see it, sometimes do special things.

I was planning a trip in Feb of this year the week DD turned 4, but I got injured at work and I am not recovered yet, so I had to cancel:sad2: . My plan was to have an appointment at the BBB and have the hairstyle and makeup and then I would have taken her to MK that day, and then had the Cinderella dinner buffet at GF for dinner.

My dd turned 3 on our trip this past January. We were told when we booked that it goes by the date of check in. We checked in 2 days before her birthday. We also asked the front dest of the hotel and they told us the same thing. Have fun on your trip!

one time i asked about this when i called CRO and was told "well if she turns three during your trip its your choice to pay or not,if you want good karma you could go ahead and get her a ticket" ! this is NOT true, if she turns three during the trip she is free...I dont hink it would hurt my karma:confused3 it was a silly thing to say....well i ended up just moving my trip to the week before so my "KARMA" would be ok lol

Thanks, everyone for your help! :thumbsup2

Looks like I have nothing to feel sheepish about, after all.

Thanks also for the tip about the birthday pin--that will make the day that much more special for her. :lovestruc :wizard:

LOL, I think that CM was working out his or her own karmic hindrances, and maybe needs to read up on the normal protocol for such questions. :goodvibes

My dd will be turning 3 the day after we arrive. I booked her as a 2 yr old since that's her age at the start of the trip.

I got her a BBB apt, then lunch at CRT will a special birthday cake ordered. I plan to get her a bday pin, and I think she will get a birthday princess sash at BBB. I cant wait as Im so excited for her! She loves WDW (this will be her 4th trip I think).

Oooh...birthday cake. I hadn't even thought about that. How do you order a cake? We're going to Crystal Palace for dinner.

We just celebrated DS' 3rd b-day, checking in the day before he turned three. Some restaurants (I think CP is one of them) bring out a cupcake for the birthday. Chef Mickeys did and Coral Reef put a candle in his ice cream. :)
We had a server at Biergarten buffet question that 3yo rule (saying he should be charged for his meal since he was 3) but the manager agreed with us that it was age at check-in. So she should also be able to eat free at buffets or off your plate.
