Ok, this really isn't disney related, but I figured someone on this board could help me out. DD2 is having some issues today 'going' to the bathroom. She's never really had problems before, and doesn't want anything to eat or drink, but standing there (still in diapers) trying to go for awhile. Is there anything I can do for her? She is *very* stubborn, so the thought of an enema or something I don't know if it would go over well. Thanks!

Does she seem to be in pain/ really straining? How long has she been standing there, trying?

If she doesn't seem to be in pain, I'd probably just let it go for now, and let her do her own thing.

Shes been there about 2 hrs...but watching tv, reading a magazine at the same time....just getting grumpier cuz she's frustrated. She doesn't seem to be in pain though...she's walking around to get a new magazine to look at. I was planning on just leaving her a little bit, I just feel so bad for her.

One tactic I've used successfully before is finding something to really distract the child, like playing a game. DS loves to play chase with me back and forth through the house, so the combination of taking his mind off of it, getting him to run around and laugh would really help. Or giving him popcorn (lots of fiber), but you said she doesn't want to eat.

I actually just got her distracted to eat - a chocolate chip cookie bar. I didn't really care what it was at that point, so now she's doing good playing after eating that. Still has to go though but at least distracted. Thanks!

LOL! I know exactly how you feel! Toddlers - they sure can be exasperating, but you just gotta love 'em!

:)

Try a warm bath. The relaxing and the warm water might help. If she does seem to have any pain or throws up or runs a fever, call your doctor just to be sure. DS used to "hold it" about that age and it would drive me nuts!!!!!

Good luck!!

Warm bathes are GREAT! The heat kind of loosens things up. GOOD LUCK! Being a toddler, they understand their movements more and she might just be stubborn like you said and 'seeing' if she CAN hold it.

GOOD LUCK!

Popcorn always works for Caroline :D

Not a stubborn toddler solution but our pediatrician advised laying a child on their backs and then rotating their legs in circles and then beding the legs at the knees and pushing them back into their tummies - not a very good description, but the general concept is to get their legs moving and move their intestines. Problem is that was a suggestion for a six month old, not a toddler. But maybe you can get her to wrestle with you on the floor (can you tell I am a mommy to a son  ). I was shocked to learn how long doctors say its OK to let toddlers be constipated for - I won't quote it because I can't remember the exact number of days, but it was a long time in my mind.

Beyond leg rotations Kiwis and madarin oranges work for my DS. Mandarin oranges are kind of a treat so she may eat them - just don't be alarmed when things do start to move out - its not worms, its the pulp of the oranges! ;) You should have seen my face during the first diaper change after my son had pigged out on Mandarin oranges :scared1:
