There is something about us going to WDW and DD getting an injury in gymnastics or cheer. She pulled the tendons in her foot and is in a boot. Xrays are clear, but were not sure exactly how long she will be in it. If she starts walking the park and her foot starts to swell, are their wheelchairs located in the back of the park or will we need to send DH to the front to get one?

DH will have to go to the front. You might want to consider renting one off site to use for trip. After a long day at the park it might be nice for her to have it to leaving the park. You can park it of she wants to get out and walk for a while. Just a suggeztion .

I second getting a chair off site.. walking round Disney is hard enough on a body .. freshly injured and in a boot ? murder ! even if she doesnt need it the whole time.. she will be happy to have it by the end of the day... hope you all have a great time .

I agree that a wheelchair for the entire trip might be best. She does not have to sit in it the whole time. She can walk behind it and push when she feels like walking. It also would give her a readily available sit. When I was in a boot for a broken foot, I found that standing in place caused me pain more than moving around some.

Of site rentals will have smaller chairs for a better fit for your DD. I've heard that the adult size wheelchairs are not comfortable for children when using them all day.

OMG what is it with dancers/gymnasts getting injured right before a trip?? DD8 is a competitive dancer and has wound up in a boot twice right before a Disney trip! Once w/tendonitis and most recently w/Server's Disease. Depending on the age/size of your DD a double stroller can work well too. That's what we've done the times DD has been injured. We were able to get a stroller-as-wheelchair tag at guest services, and it let her ride when needed. Which, honestly, I insisted on a good bit. And as others have said, renting either a stroller or wheelchair offsite is the best bet.

Echo the off site chair!! I went in a boot and NO WAY could have have handled it all day wo the chair. And yes, I rented the chair under great protest but everyone was SO right.

Another advantage of renting a wheelchair off site is that you can use it around the hotel. Those resorts are huge!

DD is 15. She was training for state competitions when she rolled her foot. UGH. I will look into offsite rentals, or maybe look around here because we are driving. We have 5 weeks, so fingers crossed she will be out of it!! Still worried about all the walking. Thank you all!

Oh no! Don't know how gymnastics/cheer seasons run, but were coming up on nationals in dance. Hope she doesn't have to miss too much!

She is out for the season. :( She had to qualify to move on. This was her last year competing. She will be an Asst. Coach next year.

Oh how sad! And her senior year too! :( At least she'll be able to pass on her gift love for the sport to others! DD is out for the rest of her season too - her first solo routine too! At least we have next year though. Sending wishes and pixie dust for a speedy recovery! pixiedust:

FWIW: If she *does* get out of it in time for your trip, I would highly recommend bringing self-cling wrap in case her foot starts bothering her as you're in the parks. I've done the parks twice now after rolling my ankle, and the wrap made things much more pleasant.

Hope your DD heals quickly!

^ great suggestion. My DD has been out of her boot for about 3 weeks now, but I think I'll plan on bringing an ace wrap just in case!

Are you close to a sports supply store (Dick's, Scheels, Academy Sports...)?

The disposable self-cling wrap is perfect for this kind of trip. You don't have to worry about it getting sweaty and stinky (and not drying out overnight) - use it once and you're done. ;-) I've also found that it takes up less room in my shoe than an Ace - which is awesome if you're dealing with a foot that is in a mind to swell.

Have a great trip!

Are you talking about coban? It can be found in all sorts of colors at farm goods stores (tractor supply etc) for fairly cheap. It's used on horses.

I didn't know that! I'll be hitting the feed store this afternoon!
