It took 4 college visits, 2,000 plus miles on the minivan, 5 hotel nights, two bent rims and a flat tire, an emergency room visit for my wife who fell at one of the schools and many snacks and sodas while dodging traffic and major pot-holes on Route 81 in PA but she finally decided she will be attending her post-High School days at Gettysburg College in PA. And, yes, this is the same Gettysburg where Lincoln gave his famous "Gettysburg Address".

Beautiful campus and a lovely town. Hey, you gotta love a place where you can take a Ghost Tour. ;)

Has anybody here gone or is going to Gettysburg?

That is great, Scott!!!!! Sounds like a neat one, my best to her, and both of you too. :sunny:

No input on the school.......but how exciting.
Choosing is a hard job.

Great news Scott! If you ever take that Ghost Tour, let us know how it was. I've always wanted to do a tour like that. Good luck to your DD! :D

That's good news, Scott! Congrats!

We're going through college searches now, too. Our DD is a Junior in HS. Is your DD a Senior? We're headed to visit Univ of NC Chapel Hill & Charlotte campuses over Mother's Day weekend. We're trying to convince her to stay in FL, because of low tuition costs, and maybe she'll change her mind.

Has your DD already been accepted at Gettysburg, or was it one of the ones she is just going to be applying to? I'm so confused by this whole college thing, I can't tell you!

Good luck and if you have any hints/suggestions, let me know!

Hi! I seldom post on the Community board but...my DS, a junior in high school, is also considering applying to Gettysburg! Is your DD a senior this year? What made her decide on Gettysburg? My DS spent a "junior preview" day at Lafayette this past weekend and now may also be applying there. What other schools did your DD consider and what is she interested in studying? I had to laugh at your description of your "college shopping"!!:D :D

I don't know anything about this university but I think Gettysburg is just a pretty little town.

I can't believe you have a child old enough for college, Scott. Merry doesn't look old enough for that.

I am glad your DD has made a decision. Gettysburg is a nice area.

My DD is a junior in high school and we just started the hunt also. Have visited University of Massachusetts and University of Maryland. Maybe we need to start a college search board to share information.

Scottwdw, didn't go there, but through my job deal with so many colleges and universities. Gettysburg is a great school and a what a beautiful location. Congrats that this process is behind you, it is a very stressful time for the kids and the parents!

And, FOJMO, enjoy your weekend visit to Chapel Hill. I grew up there, attended UNC-CH and loved it. But, I do understand you wanting DD to be closer to home.

My DD is a Senior this year and will be attending Gettysburg in the Fall. She was also accepted at Mary Washington College, Geneseo (State University of NY), Western New England College and LeMoyne College. She will be studying English and Secondary Education which is why she chose to apply to these schools. Whether she ends up with this is too soon to tell.

I can not speak for her so I don't know all the determining factors in her final descision. I know she loved the campus and the town (she is also a history buff). The student tour was excellent. Unlike other schools, we shared our tour with just one other family. Afterwards we had a one-on-one with an Admissions counselor who had recommended my DD for admissions to Gettysburg. And, lastly, being a private college, their financial package was excellent. It didn't hurt that DD is 4th in her class out of over 400 and in the National Honor Society either. :)

I also can say it was a tough descision. All the colleges had their pluses and minus', she just felt more "at home" at Gettysburg and could picture herself living there for the next four years. I'm sure your DS will find his fit too.

Oh, you are too kind!!! Hugs to you!!!! :teeth:

Excellent news Scott. My DD is a senior also so we have been thru it all, too.

We were lucky...after visiting around 8 school, applying early decision to 4 of them, she had an "AH-HA". Fell in love with a school, got accepted and sent her deposit to the school in mid January.
She will be around 18-20 hours away in indiana.

All her friends are now making their decisions and I am so glad we got past this early on.

That's good to hear! I just made my final decision after many visits as well. It's a tough thing to decide. I'm sure she'll be happy!

I'm glad your DD has made her decision. It must be a relief to have that wonderful college search journey behind you. I remember it fondly:rolleyes: DD and I toured 21 colleges from NH to VA. I was glad she did her Medical College search by herself.

Scott: Congratulations to your daughter! It must be so wonderful to have the entire college choice "ordeal" finished! We also had a wonderful tour guide at Gettysburg and also shared our tour with just one other family. My DH just said this am that he hoped our DS would decide on Gettysburg and apply ED...then I saw your post! My DS' problem is that he loves every school he visits!;) Best of luck to your DD!!:) :)

That's awesome! I'm a senior in high school, in the fall I went on a "class trip" to Gettysburg to see the battlefields and Ike's house. We ate lunch at the college's campus, it was really nice :)

We were in Gettysburg last week! What a nice campus there. We took the ghost tour on a previous visit. It was fun but what I'd really like to do is a ghost tour on the battlefields:eek:   We loved all the shops too, the funniest T-shirt I saw said "If at first you don't secede, try, try again":D :D :D
