She has been running a fever since sunday , I took her to the doctors on monday and the doctor said she has nothing , no ear infection , no respiratory infection , nothing in her throat either.
The problem she says is viral. She has had a fever since , she takes her motrin and it goes down, once it wears off it comes up again and she's been out of school all this week.
The doctor took bloodwork to find out what allergy she has , last year she had this persistent cough in the middle of the summer and x-rays were taken, nothing showed. She was given antihistamines ( sp? ) and eventually it went away. The persistent coughing came back just a few days ago when we were in Florida and it's still lingering here so the doctor wants to see what she may be allergic to. I'm so upset , I don't know what to do , hopefully the results will be in today but I don't know. She acts normal but has this fever and she can't go to school.
I'm going to call the doctor today at noon and ask her to see what she wants to do.

My dd went to the dr last month. She had a temp, the cough, sore throat, etc. I thought she had tonsillitis or strep. The dr sent her home with an rx for cough medicine and said all she had was a sore throat. She had a fever for about 2-3 days. It took her awhile to get to feeling like herself again.:(

I hope your dd gets to feeling better soon.:)

Shannon, she was given absolutely nothing, no cough medecine, nothing!! that's what upsets me. She sounds like she's got a slight cold but I do not know if it could be partially because of possible allergies or maybe because she got the flu shot ( she has for years now ) . I'm going to call the doctor in the afternoon, hopefully she will have the results by then along with an answer.

I remember one time I took Britt in because she was coughing - cough, cough, cough - constantly. No fever, just cough and a bad one. So I'm thinking, okay she has a good bout of bronchitis - guess what she ended up having - STREP!!!!!!! I was so shocked. So I kind of had the oppposite thing that you are having.

I don't know what to tell you but I agree - talk to the doctor today and see if she has any other info that she can give you - maybe something else to take or something. Is she moppy and non-energetic? The hardest part is when they are bouncing and full of energy!!!!

A fever is the body's defense mechanism against some sort of "invader" viruses are tricky things- probably whatever is going on will run it's course in a few days and the fever will disappear. I have never known an allergy to cause a fever.... and I'm allergic to just about everything!

Oh kanga...take her back to the Dr...I hope she feels better soon. Big hugs to you and her.

That's what throws me off Chris, she's acting normal ! I would assume if she had strep the doctor would have seen it monday. Funny that she gets this cough as soon as we got to Florida and the warmer climate, now it's still lingering here but not as bad. I don't know, we will see what happens when I talk to the doctor!

If over 101, I would definitely be concerned. My DD also ran a low grade (99, 100) fever for about 2.5 days last week - same thing - as soon as the Tylenol or Advil wore off, fever was back. Started with a cough, too. We went to dr - no strep - treated with over the counter meds and she was out of school 3 days - still has a little cough but has rebounded now. If the fever persists after 3 days and other symptoms have increased, I'd call the dr, report symptoms and how you have been treating symptoms, and perhaps go back in. It may have started viral, but a secondary infection may have begun...

Then again, if her apetite is good, physical energy is good, cough is lessening, no upset stomach or sore throat, she may be getting better. Just watch for any signs of difficulty breathing.

I don't think this is anything too unusual or serious. My DD6 occasionally runs a fever for a day or two with no other symptoms. We call them "mystery" fevers. I wouldn't run back to the doctor unless your daughter gets sicker or the fever runs for several days. My DD6 ran a fever (over 102) for 10 days recently. The doctor said it was the flu and was not concerned.

Good luck.
Peggy

My daughter has done this on MANY occasions. Every time it was viral. She'd run a fever for a week with no other symptoms and it just had to run its course.

Hopefully that's all it is for your daughter, Olga. :)

We had the same problem 2 years ago with DD. The doctor said it was viral & there was nothing to do. He'd run the quick strep test because her fever was over 101. I called back after 3 days & then they ran the longer test which came back positive.

DD has a really strong immune system & really fights stuff off. Now when I take her for similar symptoms, the only run the longer test & phone in the Rx when the results come back - usually positive.

Re: allergies & the cough - I was allergic the building I was working in (the air quality actually) & my major symptom was the cough. I started on Claratin daily & the cough stopped.

We are assuming now that she may have some kind of climate allergy, it happened last year in the summer here at home and it started again as soon as we got to Florida two weeks ago. I can only hope that the bloodwork will show something, if not we will see how she does in the summer here this year...in the meantime , trying to fight back whatever virus she may have now. Always something!

Sometimes these viral things take a long time to go away. My DD(11) had a fever off and on for 9 days, and a cough. No other syptoms, Strep test was negative. It just had to run its course. I wouldnt be upset if the MD doesnt give you any meds, people tend to overmedicate, then become resistant to various medications.
