Strangest thing I've ever heard of . . .she brings home her Interim Report and all her grades are good except for the "D" in PE. And over in the comment section it says "Great Participation" "Poor Test Grade" Ok, so when did we start taking tests in PE? It's not the mid-term . . .The unit they did was football and DD said they had to answer questions about positions and make up a football play . . .And her, not being a football fan, of course did bad but it counted for 75% of her grade?

She has never gotten anything less than a B+ in gym but this was before H.S. . . .

Geeze what ever happened to getting an "A" for good participation and coming to PE dressed?

This stinks!

Yep, it happens these days. Dressing and partisipating means nothing, a lot of skills have been added that account for 50+% of the grade.

In fourth grade I recieved a D on my report card in art.

I went on to recieve a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts.::yes::

We ALWAYS had tests (written and activity) in PE. This was back in the 80's...it tests to make sure you were paying attention and not just thinking of it as a slacker course. I failed the ping pong test, seriously...
:o :o

Maybe it's a MN thing Andrea - we had to take tests in PE too. I remember the badmiton one specifically :) LOL

I only had to take two years of PE in high school. Both of the at Aldine Senior High. I did great on the written tests but not so well on the participation part. I hated PE

Me, too, Katholyn!:worried:

On the physical stuff, I always did the harder tasks or extra credit to balance out the A's I got on the tests!:teeth: I got one D and one F in PE in High School - both times was because I wouldn't take the showers and let the teacher check and see if I was wearing underwear under my towel!:cutie: (I was, too!!:o )

At my son's high school in Alabama, they take tests in PE...go figure! :faint: (I love the new smilies!)

Here as long as they dress out they pass. I do think they have some other grade factors but not much. My DD got a 100% so I quess she's doing okay.

We had to take written tests in PE also (In Iowa.) I always did bad on the weightlifting test. They gave us study sheets, but I just didn't really care about the class.

During our swimming PE class I dressed maybe 20% of the time. The teacher still passed me with a "B." I never really figured that out until my sister reminded me that I was dating one of his Varsity Wrestlers! (He was the coach.) :crazy2:

We had to take tests in P.E. too (Florida). We actually had a book for P.E.

One of my friends daughter did not graduate last June because she failed gym. She's now going to night school to make up the gym class.:crazy2:

I graduated from HS in the 70's and in Indiana we had to take a written test for every subject in PE.

I am in Iowa now and all my kids have to do is show up for an "A".

I remember in Nebraska we had skills tests, rules tests, points for dressing and getting out of the lockerroom on time. If you were there, dressed, and trying hard..... you would get a good grade. And the grade actually was weighted like all of your other classes.

Seems like a little more emphasis should be placed on physical fitness..... effort and participation.

We had tests in PE and had to keep a notebook in 1977-78! It helped me a lot because I am NOT athletic and have no skills. It was the only way for me to get my "A".
I know PE is so watered down compared to when I took it--a lot of schools here have gotten rid of any equipment that might hurt a kid and up the insurance rate--where I teach they got rid of all the gymnastics stuff, trampoline, bars, etc. Now it's soccer, basketball, badminton, softball (YAWN!).

I recall very few tests in PE during high school. I think the tests were mostly on heatlth, never recall a football test! I perosnally think that STINKS! I woudln't have gotten past the first question. I feel for you and your daughter. We're a baseball family and never watch football. I don't even know if my 5 year old knows what it is! LOL

Eighth grade was the first year we had written tests in PE. I don't think anyone really took the teacher too seriously at first. I know I had barely read the little handbook. THEN, the test came! We had to know the history, rules and strategies of badmitton. The first question was: "Who Invented Badmitton?"
I wrote "John Bad" and "Sir Henry Mitton." I think this gave the teacher a clue that I had no clue! I got an F on that test but you can bet that it didn't happen in the next unit on fencing.

I remember the badmiton one from college. That one was impossible. The strung a string about 6 inches above the net and taped a bunch of lines on the ground on the other side of the net. You had to get the shuttle between the net and string and land it in specific sections of the floor on the other side. I don't think anyone got better then a 'C'.

I didn't know they were testing in high school though.
