DD buses ECV accessible ?

Hello,

We will be staying at Courtyard DD in late Sept/early Oct and will probably need to rent an ECV for my mother due to foot/knee problems. I just read on another board that the DD buses are not wheelchair/ECV friendly.

Could someone confirm for me whether or not this is the case...we were planning on using the bus system to avoid taking the ECV apart to get it in the van but might have to rethink that plan.

The buses from the DD hotels are not ECV accessible. I understand you can arrange a van to take you to the parks.

I've heard the same thing.
They do have to provide some way for you to have access though. How I've heard they handle it is that you can call for an accessible van.
I'd suugest you call the resort and ask if you don't get any one with real recent experience.

You will be very restricted at the Courtyard if they operate the same policy as the Royal Plaza hotel, which is also in DTDisney area.

I was told that you had to book an EVC accessible van 24 hours before you needed it.

I had booked the Royal Plaza but cancelled my stay when I found this out, as it was just not viable for our trip. We do have a plan, but not that rigid, and it just wouldn't have worked for us.

I would check with the Courtyard as you may want to reconsider staying in that hotel if your mother does need the EVC.

Ive never used an EVC, however, I do recall reading a post somewhere from a person who was very frustrated trying to get around Disney with one. Her main problem was using the bus system. Don't assume because a bus is equiped to handle an EVC that everything will go smoothly. Oftentimes its very difficult to manuver onto and off the bus lift. Also, I understand bus drivers are not allowed to help for fear of liability. Personally, if it were me, I would forget the bus system and rent a car or van to get around in. I understand some EVC's are "van friendly". Just need to call around.
