DD bought her homecoming dress tonight...

My DD is down in West Palm Beach. She will be a sophomore this fall. She is visiting an aunt and uncle (they have no kids, and aunt had BEGGED for years for any of the nieces or nephews to visit.)

I suggested to DD that if her and aunt want to go shopping, they should look for homecoming dresses...maybe they could find something on sale. And, FWIW, I HATE dress shopping with DD. It isn't fun.

SO - over the weekend, DD finds a dress for $120, that she really liked, not on sale...and far more than I would let DD spend on a dress, and DD knows that. She didn't buy it

Tonight...she finds 3 dresses, one is $4.00. YEP - this one is her favorite, except it needs to have some of the beadwork on the bodice repaired. Aunt does a lot of crafts, costumes for plays, etc. If anyone can fix a little beading...Aunt can!!! And, if Aunt cannot fix beading, they also bought choice #2 for $20. DD told me that they will either return the $4 dress if beading is not repairable, or the $20 dress.

DD sent me a camera pic of one of the dresses - very cute!!!

Either way...I do not have to go dress shopping...WOOHOO!

Yes...I know homecoming is not until October...there could still be plenty of drama...but I am going to go back into my fantasy world and pretend nothing else will come up!

For those prices, I'd have her keep them both. Then, she can decide in October which one she wants to wear. Plus, you never know what else will come up.

Hey...there are lots of dances that can come up...Homecoming, Sadie Hawkins, Spring Fling, etc. For $24 I'd tell her to keep both dresses!

That is what I am thinking too...the other big formal every year is the turn-about dance. (The one where girls ask the guys to the dance.)

Can I ask a very silly question? What is homecoming? My high school never had that sort of stuff, we didn't have any dances except for the senior prom, but I always hear about homecoming in movies and such, and I never exactly understood the point, except that there was a football game and a fancy dress dance afterwards?

^ Homecoming is usually an event celebrating the football team's first home game of the season (but sometimes its the ceond or thrd home game). Of course you have the football game, but usually their is a parade during halftime and some places even have a parade through town. Then you have a fancy dance either after the game or on another night



O.P. that is such a great deal on dresses!!!!! Im going to be a sophmore this fall too and I already have the dress Im wearing for homecoming, I actually bought it back in April because it was on sale and its my favorite color (pink)

If I was your daughter I would just keep both dresses because they were so cheap

Yep, if you're going to go thrifting for formal wear, that would be a good neighborhood to do it in.

A million years ago - when I married my first husband - I got my wedding dress on clearance for $17 - because it was "out of season" (sleeveless).. My mom was a fantastic seamstress - added long white velvet sleeves (as well as a few other touches to make it "different") and we saved my dad a boat load of money..

Good for your DD! And I agree - keep both dresses for that price..
