My niece is looking to book a trip for her and her son this fall. She is a single Mom with a short budget and I would like to help her out if possible - I have no points to offer her because I just booked a big trip for my family.
Does anyone know if being a DVC member I can get her some discounts on a budget trip? I know I can get discounts on DVC resorts but she is looking more at the value resorts like the All Star resorts.
Any info appreciated!

There is no discount for DVC members at those resorts. They have passholder discounts but the passholder must be traveling to take advantage of them. Even for the DVC discounts you would have to be in the traveling party with them in order for them to use theose.

You might have her sign into David's facebook page to get the monthly discounted stays. They are short notice, but not as expensive as regular rentals.

Thanks Deb & Bill. I thought of David's but don't think a short notice reservation would work for her. On a regular basis he's selling the points at $13 pp which isn't bad but not a bargain..I checked the rent/trade boards too but didn't see anything for $10 or under.....OKW is the least expensive DVC resort via points 10 points a night (for sept/oct when she wants to go) but that would be $130 a night - she's getting All Stars resort at $85 a night. She's never been to WDW before so I'm sure she'll be fine with All Stars I just thought if I could upgrade her a bit that would be nice.

What about an off property timeshare close by? Most have shuttles and it would be much cheaper. Even if you could get a discount, you'd have to be present to use it.

Thanks you for the idea. I think she really wants to be in Disney. If I could've offered her something that would've been a bonus but I think she's getting a pretty decent deal via WDW.

I just noticed on TSS's site that last minute points must be used at SSR... wonder why? I know that is likely the last resort available, but sometimes there are some openings elsewhere.

SSR is the largest resort by far. almost as large as the next 2 largest DVC resorts (OKW and AKV) put together.

even if there is availability at other resorts, i suspect it would almost certainly be too limited to be worth advertising by email. given the more limited supply, it would not surprise me that even if david were willing to book it, he would want more money to do so.
