DCL without kids

While we started cruising with DCL when my daughter was a child, she is now a adult and we have just as much fun! I can highly recommend DCL for adults only. Have a great time!:wizard:

We didn't start cruising until our kids were in college. We'll be taking our 6th DCL cruise next week, with another to follow in the fall.

One reason we like DCL is because they have great kids' programs. Compared to other cruise lines we've been on Disney does a better job of keeping kids occupied and entertained (and they appear to be happier), and the CMs are much better at keeping them out of the adult areas.

We've never taken kids on a cruise................we will take DGD sometime, but not yet

I have traveled DCL alone, with just my wife, with my wife and children (when they were children), and with my 19 year old son.

I loved going on DCL when my kids were kids. But, I like it way better now.

DW and I have done several DCL cruises without our son, we loved them all :yay: In fact we have a four night Dream cruise booked for this winter. Plenty of places for adults to get away from the children, plenty of activities for adults, adult themed shows, and I highly recommend dining at Palo, and/or Remy when sailing the Dream or Fantasy.

I was really surprised how nice the adult only areas on the ships are. Plenty of space and lots to do. There always seem to be plenty of couples traveling without kids. I think the perception of a Disney Cruise is that there will be nothing but screaming kids, running all over the place but they do a really good job creating quiet places for adults. The husband and I always peer into the adult only areas and dream of the day we can leave the kids home, tell them we're going to a boring conference somewhere and go on a cruise instead. I worry about the kind of nursing home they'd choose for us when we get older if they ever find out we went on a Disney Cruise without them. ;-)

My hubby and I have no children, and we will be taking our 4th cruise with Disney next August. We love the Disney atmosphere - the ship and restaurants are so beautiful - and we love the high level of customer service. We find that there is still lots to do even though we are adults, but we still love watching and/or participating in some of the family activities too. We never found the children on the ship particularly bothersome, and the adult areas are very nice and relaxing.

My kids are adults, with jobs and living on their own, but they are a bit jealous that we go on DCL without them! When they were younger we'd go to WDW every couple of years or so and they've always thought that Disney meant a family vacation. We've taken them on two cruises and they greatly enjoyed both, but they have a hard time accepting that Mom and Dad are taking a Disney trip without them.

As for the younger kids on the ship, I've rarely seen kids on DCL misbehaving. It's actually a delight to see the young ones having so much fun. I saw far more unruly kids on RCL, which also allowed the kids free run of the adult pool area.

The fact that adult only cruising on DCL is fantastic is one of their secrets. Don't tell anybody.

No kids here, we are platinum and love DCL. The adult only areas on the Dream class ships are a lot better in our opinion. We have done a few other cruise lines, but DCL is the one for us. I'm sure others have experienced this: there is a real perception that DCL is only for people with kids, others seem surprised that someone with no kids would even go on DCL. I didn't even notice a difference in number of kids between DCL and other lines.

Enjoying the feedback on this thread as we have our first cruise ever booked with DCL for later this year.
We got a few weird comments when people asked us which cruise line we chose but cannot wait!

We'll do either a 3 or 4 night.

What types of activities do adults do during the day?

How is the internet service? I realize you pay for it, but how consistent is it?

Go for 4 nights. You'll need the extra day! There are several adult only activities planned through the day in addition to any type of family activity. As others have pointed, past navigators are there. Internet is fine for doing simple things, maybe post a facebook, check emails etc. I wouldn't recommend trying to stream a video or making a VOIP phone call (facetime or skype). If you log in the first day, they seem to offer a free 50mb.

Have a great cruise. We've sailed with and without kids on Disney.

DCL without kids is awesome!! Another pair of empty nesters here. We didn't start cruising until DD was grown and gone :D Now she house sits for us while we travel...... :sail::cat:

Add another empty nester couple that cruise DCL with no kids. We started cruising back when our son was young and now he is jealous that we go and he can't because he has to work. There are times you will notice ALOT of kids, so don't let anyone blow smoke about that. In the atrium before dinners, during character greetings, running in the hallways at night, and around the pool areas. However, Disney does a great job at having spaces for adults to escape to. Although I am always sad to leave the ship, I am glad to be about the only one relaxed while leaving. All those parents that have overindulged their wee ones all week, are now dealing with over tired, overindulged, crying kids. Don't miss that one bit!

I would suggest a 4 day as a minimum because the 3 day just won't give you enough time to enjoy all the ship has to offer.

Internet was fine on the Fantasy. I signed up for the 50mb of free at the start of the week and didn't use it all. I mostly did emails. We were in two "U.S" ports (St Thomas, and San Juan Puerto Rico) so my cell service worked in both. Check your plan though, we could use text in St Thomas, but not voice or data. San Juan we could use either with no extra charges. (Verizon)

We (a mid-20s couple) honeymooned on DCL (7-Day Eastern on the Fantasy to be precise) and it was absolutely perfect. I'm of the opinion if you like going to the parks without kids, not having kids on a cruise won't hamper your enjoyment of that either. We played a lot of trivia, did mixology and champagne tasting classes, went to movies, enjoyed the pool, had Palo brunch one morning, played Midship Detective, and enjoyed tons of on demand movies in our stateroom that we hadn't seen in years, not to mention my absolute favorite activity - enjoying a nice adult beverage on our verandah while watching the ocean sail by. We wanted the Disney ships and the Disney service and as far as my DH is concerned, he never wants to sail another line again, pre or post kids!

I'm single (never married and no kids) and I absolutely enjoy sailing with Disney Cruise Lines (I've completed 8 Disney Cruises in the past five years). They are private adult areas and things for adults to do and you don't have to worry about being left out of the kids/family activities. Obviously they will be kids on board so prepare yourself for that. Nevertheless, if you are a Disney fan I'm sure you'll love cruising with Disney. Personally I'm looking forward to my next Disney Cruise.

We were on the Dream with 2 adult sons, a few years ago, August. Many adult areas, but if DH and I were to go alone, we would not go during the summer or traditional vacation/holiday weeks there are lots of kids. Would cruise slower times when most kids are in school like September, May, October. ENJOY:banana: if you go; LOVE Castaway Cay! :cheer2:

We don't have any children and we enjoyed our three day cruise in 2012 so much that we're doing an eight day cruise this year!

Our main concern was dining, but we were seated with two sisters from Japan (one of whom worked at Epcot) and a honeymooning couple from Germany. They were awesome table mates.

I don't think we had time to visit any of the "adults only" areas on the ship. We did go to the "adults only" beach on the Disney island (the name of which escapes me at the moment), but we were literally the ONLY adults there as the bad weather kept most people on board the ship. All the "shared" areas were fine and I never really noticed the heavy presence of children other then when we were lining up to go on the water slide. During all meals and at the Broadway style shows, the children still didn't seem to be in the majority.

We're doing our first DCL cruise next month. Myself, husband, and DS (20 with mild developmental delays). We're really looking forward to it. Keep hearing the adult areas are great, and DS is really looking forward to being a grown-up.
