DCL - what kind of ID at bars?

Hi everyone. I am taking my first Disney cruise in October with my husband. I am 24 and understandably still get IDed when ordering drinks at restaurants here at home. I am planning on visiting the bars on Castaway Cay and on the ship.

How does Disney handle checking if you are over 21? Do they need to see an ID, or can they just swipe your KTTW room card? Is there anything on the room card stating that I am over 21? I am unsure about taking my license off the ship at Castaway (I'd like to keep stuff at a bare minimum). If my license is necessary I want to avoid having to walk all the way back to my room to grab it.

Thanks in advance :)

Not 100% sure but someone who is will probably be along soon. I think they just need your KTTW.

Your KTTW card will indicate whether you are over 21 or not. That being said, you do need to bring photo ID with you when departing the ship (driver's license works).

I'm 27 and still get carded. Sometimes I've only needed my KTTW Card and other times they asked for license. So really sometimes it depends on bartender/server

The card has your info on it. I suppose a DL might be needed to make sure it's your card. might as well bring it with you. (I use a lanyard so it has room for those things)

Gotta take that ID to Castaway along with the KTTW. Castaway is the Bahamas and you have to have ID to get back onboard.

I recommend a Witz brand "see it safe" case with a lanyard! REI, amazon, various other places have them...

Your "Key To The World Card" will have an "A" on it if you are and adult. I believe it is marked with an "M" if you are a minor.
Have a great cruisepixiedust:

There is also a third code (B?) on the KTTW card if you are 18 but not yet 21.

IIRC, my son's girlfriend just showed her KTTW card last year.

In summary:
1. You need ID to get off the ship at Castaway Cay, so you'll have it with you.
2. a. Room cards state if you are old enough

b. However you may still be asked to show ID at some locations because your room card does not have your photo on it, so there could be suspicion that you are using someone elses card. If you spend more time in certain bars or lounges the bar tenders are really good about remembering you, so you wouldn't need it on subsequent nights.

Man I wish I would get carded, I guess my age shows....damn those gray hairs!!!!!

Everything is on your KTTW card, including your blood type.

Yes, you have up to date information here people cruising on the magic who are 18 and over and local law says they can drink, my daughter had this.

She's specifically talking about Castaway Cay. While not a thorough answer to cover all situations, answers about a DL to someone talking about that island and talking about the drinking age being 21 (so she's probably American and therefore allowed to cruise with just the DL as photo govt' ID) are probably exactly correct.

We sailed with a 22 year old this year. In O'Gills, even though her KTTW card showed that she was an adult of age to order a drink, the bartender still asked to see her driver's license. Even though we all vouched that she was old enough. You never know. Your DL will fit in the case with your KTTW on your lanyard if you are concerned that you will need it.

the second part of 2. b. was totally me on a few cruises. The bartenders/Servers new I was over 21 by the 2nd or 3rd night, but I went to other bars and a bar at at castaway cay once and they asked for ID.

When we took our, then, 18 year old on DCL, he was "carded" about 3 or 4 times in Quiet Cove, before the servers there got to know him. He was only required to show his KTTW card, never asked for driver's license.

I'll say I liked reading this post, thought I was the only one who bartenders/servers asked to show ID at times. Everyone else seems to post you don't need it. I mean after the first night I usually don't, but I have been asked at times. so I just carry it with KTTW card

Once they "ring up" the drinks, your picture shows up on the POS. I wasn't going to carry my ID around the ship, knowing that, and only ONCE was I "carded" and i told them to swipe it, and it showed my picture. =)
