I am getting married in september on the cruise ship, since it is so hot this time of year, I was wondering if there were any alternatives for a tuxedo. I don't want the groom to feel uncomfortable. This will be the second time around for both of us, so we don't want to do anything too over the top. Any ideas?

We are renewing our vows on the Disney Wonder in September (when are you sailing) and my hubby is wearing a light pair of linen pants and a tropical looking shirt. Here's a pic

It depends on how formal or informal you want to make it. I think pjstevens has a great compromise.

We are getting married on September 12 on the Disney wonder. I am looking at wearing a white sun dress which I have coming from India. Will let you know how that goes when it gets her on Monday. I might end up getting another dress later if this one does not work.

I think if you are wearing a sundress, hubby can wear anything he's comfy in. Khakis' and a shirt would be fine. I am wearing a wedding dress (I call it my 'slut' dress cause I have NEVER worn anything like this, but fell in love iwth it).

Patricia I am proud of you! That is amazing! I am not sure I could pull it off.

Risnsun, I would definately go with the khakis and a nice shirt. I think that that will be comfortable and look really nice.

It is a hard decision. I still kind of want a semi formal wedding. *sigh* Getting too close to flip flop around though.

AND WOW I wish I could pull a dress like that off!!!

Well the tux is light weight wool. As long as you keep it short and have the cake inside it may not be so bad!

My DF is wearing a loose fitting Calvin Klein linen suit with a white unbuttoned button down:thumbsup2 He got it from Mens warehouse.
Kinda like this only, white shirt and my DF is not Rob Lowe:lmao:
Best wishes.......

First, that is NOT a slut dress! It's gorgeous.

Back OT - I think comfort and slightly matching your level of dressiness is a great plan! we're not doing DCL, but DF just bought a really nice new pin stripe black suit (also from Men's Warehouse)... he has a card with them and every month gets a discount coupon (15%) plus for every $100 you spend there you get a coupon for $50 off... DF just bought 2 new pair of dress shoes and some new shirts for work a couple months ago, so he had a -$100 coupon... so, we got an awesome Jones New York suit (regularly $399) for -$100, -15% and an extra sale of 5% for using his credit card with them. It was freakin' awesome. We also bought the groomsmen matching dress shirts, ties [which were buy 1 get 1] and pocket squares. Anyway, we started out thinking tux, but what the hell :confused3 for a little extra, he could get a suit that he can wear again a million times. Plus, he doesn't have a black suit (olive, blue, you name it, but not black - go figure!) He also got new dress shoes ... I was so excited...

It's similar to this, but I couldn't find the exact suit...

3 ties (originally priced $20)
3 dress shirts (originally priced $50)
1 new suit (Jones NY) (originally priced $399)
1 pair black dress shoes (originally priced $50)
3 silk pocket squares (on cards) (originally priced $10)
------------
with summer sale, coupons, and discounts = $450  Total steal. I felt like we robbed the place!

Plus, it took us all of 30 minutes. unbelievable. I wish my dress was that easy!! Guys are so f'n lucky. :rotfl: jerks. it will probably take him 20 minutes to get ready too! :lmao:

Anyway -- I can't recommend men's wearhouse enough. Plus with their huge summer sale they have a lot of sport coats (casual) on sale... maybe check out a pair of khakis, a polo and a sport coat for the ceremony - then when he takes it off he can be more comfy but a little more formal for your vows.....

From a guy's perspective, a nice suit can look even better than a tux. That goes double if you buy a quality suit and have it appropriately tailored (have it tailored. seriously. makes a world of difference). There's a bajillion different styles (seriously. 2-button, 3-button, more buttons, single breasted, double breasted, lapel variations, etc), cuts, hues, pinstripes or not.

Think of a suit as the men's equivalent to that little black dress y'all have to have. A guy finds that right suit and bam....instantly will look like a million bucks.

If you want to go casual, drop the tie, open the collar and relax it a bit. Khaki/Tan suits are a step further down, then things like linen pants and open shirts...all the way down to barefoot and board shorts.

I tried to sell that latter idea, coupled with a bowtie, but got massively shot down. I'll be wearing a tux :)

I couldn't agree more! :thumbsup2 DF used the fit as his main pro-suit argument too. He said, I know that when you rent a tux (why buy one - he'd only wear it like twice in his life!) they make it "fit" but its not tailored to YOU like a suit is. It won't fit like a glove, because ultimately, it was made to fit a lot of men, not just yours. Plus, it's not like a wedding gown, if you buy a nice suit they can get a million uses out of it (besides, every man should have atleast 1 nice black suit for fancy occasions, weddings and funerals)... I agree 100% a well tailored suit could potentially look incredible...and with all the different styles, you can get one that accents your best features while playing down your not so great ones...I know tuxs are cut differently as well, but there aren't as many variations...plus with pin stripes and patterns, you can get a nice sharp texture that really says "damn, he's hot." :rotfl:

Well, it ends up that I was able to get him a red mickey mouse tuxedo vest, and he is going to wear that with a suit that I bought him this winter. And I have placed an order for a dress to be made for me in red and white (halter style). I just couldn't resist getting him the vest. So, I decided the sun dress was not up to my expectations so, I got the one I really wanted. Afterall, from behind it looked like I was wearing a tent!

My DH is wearing a white Cubavera linen shirt and tan linen pants...

Another idea might be a guayabera (a.k.a. a Mexican wedding shirt). You see them in white a lot, but apparently they also come in colors!

here is what DH and friends wore..perfect for a caribbean wedding!
white linen shirt from Cubavera and cream linen pants from Pennys ($11.99!!)

Where did you get the shirt Betsy? I'm looking for that for DH.
