I am taking my Mom on a 7-day DCL cruise in December. The itinerary is the St. Maarten/St. Thomas one. My question: when we get to the ports, can they accommodate transfers of a scooter? My Mom will be on her own ECV and I'm trying to think about whether we will be getting off or just staying and relaxing on the ship.

Thanks.

Normally the DCL ships will be at a dock and tendering is not needed.

However, the gangplanks are steep! I would suggest that she walk on or off the ship and someone standing next to the ECV work the controls by hand, especially on boarding.

There is a lot to see in St Thomas near the ship, not so much in Ste Martaan. And don't expect much in the way of curb cuts or access to stores. And the tours are not accessible.

My husband uses a wheelchair on cruises because ports are harder to navigate with an ECV and a wheelchair gives more options. However, if she must take the scooter, it will limit what she is able to partake in while in port. There are always cast members around to assist with getting down the ramp, so that will not be an issue. You may want to research the ports beforehand to see what interests your DM and make plans as to how to maneuver the islands. Have a great cruise!
