We noticed the buildings on that outter island (off in the distance). Is this Freeport?

Yep, it's open to everyone. There is a well marked gravel path (practically a road) that runs off the airstrip that leads to Serenity Bay. The path loops back to the airstip and near the mid point is the observation tower which gives a great view of most of the island. There are a number of water stations set up along the way (our son insisted on stopping at all of them ).We biked there, and when we picked up the bikes they told us about the path (though I already knew about it from the DIS ). Riding there we also passed a number of walkers and runners.

I'd recommend biking there (as that leaves you with more beach time!) if you want to check it out. We had signed up for the Bike/Float/Snorkel package, which worked great for us.

would sure like to be on one of those Mediterranean cruises. Alas no funds this year. Perhaps they will continue these in future if successful. So everybody who can afford, go - go go!

The event was actually held at EPCOT, right in-front of the entrance to the World Showcase. It was pretty cool, all the characters were there, loads of dancers and performers from each country they would be sailing to, and lots of confetti. Too cool!
