I an considering using points for dcl next summer. I know cruising in the carribbean is hit/miss during hurricane season. Does anyone have any experience on what happens with your points if the weather forces cancellation by dcl? and also for the dvc resorts?

I know trip insurance points can be bought with the company on the little purple? pamphlet that comes with our reservations. Has anyone needed to use that policy and how did it go?

Also for split point/cash dcl reservations, do we have to buy 2 different policies? (one for points and one for cash?)

Thanks in advance!

Actually, DCL does not cancel the cruises due to weather. They may change ports, or even the port of embarkation or debarkation, but no out and out cancellation. During the cruise they can avoid the storms by steering clear in most cases.

It would be more likely that air flights you had arranged may be cancelled. You would need trip insurance to cover yourselves in case of hurricane or unforseen reasons to cancel such as trip interruption.

Travelguard is the only insurer to cover the DVC points, and coverage is $5 per point used. You will need a separate policy to cover any cash out of pocket expenses.

I always try to fly down a day early and stay at one of the cheap resorts and take the bus over from disney in the am that way if you have flight problems the day of the cruise you are not stuck at home while the boat is cruising
