DCL Modifies smoking Areas on Disney Magic & Wonder

That's really annoying. I usually sit out by the Cove and read a book or watch the ocean while having a tea and a snack. Blech!

Apparently the area on deck 10 is now concierge and smoke from deck 9 floats up so it was moved to the other side? Which means apparently DCL cares more for the few concierge guests than the masses! Nothing against concierge as they pay dearly for perks but don't see how that should affect the rest of us!

Ewwww.....well I guess we won't be enjoying the cove cafe outdoor seating area anymore on our next Wonder cruise :crazy2:

And it's not like there's a ton of seating *inside* the Cove Cafe on the Magic. I still feel like it was a ginormous blunder for them not to enclose/enlarge the Cove Cafe on the Magic like they did on the Wonder before it went to Alaska. I mean, we sailed last year to the Baltics (and it was brrrrrrr in June) and this year I'm sure Norway and Iceland won't be warm. They don't even really use that area on the Magic.

So, I just read this on Disneycruiselineblog today. Basically, the Deck 9 smoking area has moved from starboard to port side so will be right by the Cove Cafe seating area. And no longer permitted on deck 10. Not happy about this at all.

Not happy about this either. So now we have to walk through the smoking area to get into Quiet Cove Cafe. Not nice. It was always easy to avoid the smoking area on the port side.

We sailed a few weeks ago on the Magic and there were no ash trays in the adult pool area.
I took that forward was beyond the pool area???

There really isn't much forward of the actual pool area. Immediately forward of the pool is the door to inside area. The deck on either side of that (where the tables are) pretty much runs into a wall at about the same location.

For those that smoke this seems like a way better spot, but since I get migraines from smoke and love coffee...

The smoking area on the Wonder/Magic was only the 4 tables all the way forward. Looking at the photo above it would be from the hot tub forward (left).
Moving this to the opposite side would be far forward of the Cove Cafe entrance & outdoor seating.

Well, it may have "supposed" to have been only the 4 forward tables, but everytime we wound up coming through there it was the whole port side of Quiet Cove. In fact, one cruise a gentleman smoking his big old cigar was seated at the table right by the entrance to Quiet Cove on that side, and believe me, the smoke didn't know it was supposed to stay on the Quiet Cove side of the partition. When sailing, the smell travels down the whole port side of the ship. Just proves that Concierge has more weight than us non-Concierge people.

We are on the wonder now. The new smoking section is five tables behind a partition at the forward most end of the cove pool area. You Csnt even see the pool from there. I'm thrilled because the starboard side of the cove pool was always way too smoky to sit at. And I had complained on every survey. Now the entire pool area is open and breathable.

I agree that I could never sit on the starboard side of the pool due to the smoke filtering over. But is it not true that I won't be able sit on the port side now for the same reason? ALSO, we booked our verandah stateroom on opening day and chose portside to avoid the smoke. Will we be able to smell smoke on our midship Deck 7 verandah?

No one smokes where we live so we are not used to smoke at all. I always notice it when we travel.

I don't understand this... The outside area near the Cove Café including that entire deck has glass windows all the way around so the smoke might linger around longer than if the smoking area remained on deck 10. I also don't appreciate the smoking area on deck 4 which is on the walking/jogging path (unless that policy has changed) because I do enjoy jogging on the path and I can't stand having people smoking while I'm trying to exercise. Okay rant over.

I have always thought it was absurd to have a smoking area on Deck 4 where my husband and I both like to run in the morning. I am allergic to cigarette smoke and am concerned that I am essentially losing access to those lovely chairs outside the Cove Café where I have always loved to relax and read. And I have to wonder whether those loungers/chairs are now going to be permeated with cigarette smoke. This decision on DCL's part seems to exhibit a lack of thought and foresight.

The smoking area on deck 4 is only from 6PM to 6AM. If you run prior to 6AM, you'll run into smokers. From 6AM to 6PM it's non-smoking. And, yes, if you encounter smokers there during the daytime hours, just mentioning to passing CMs (or Guest Services) does result in the smokers being informed of the smoking hours.

I am not a smoker, but I realize that smokers need some compromising with. Their smoking hours/locations are limited, but they are there.

This is disappointing. I also booked a midship port side verandah room on the Magic to avoid smoke. My TA is going to call DCL tonight to see what they say..

Really, smoke tends to rise. Even if, with the movement of the ship, it travels toward the rear of the ship, it won't sink down to the room decks. This smoking area is on deck 9. Smoke will go up from there.

This thread does amuse me somewhat.
All this talk of cig smoke drifting around and effecting so many people, yet where is the outdoor lido deck eating area? Aft!
Aft behind the smoke stack billowing out cancerous dirty diesel fumes and raining soot deposits on the the aft balconies that some like to moan about.
So when you are eating outside at cabanas, remember all of those diesel particulates floating down in the air that you are breathing in whilst eating your buffet meal!
There are so many deck places that need to be avoided when you have to just only breath in pure air, and pure fresh air only.
and remember you cannot see the small particulates, you might not even smell them, but they are just floating in the air just like cig smoke.

We spent a lot of time in front of the windscreen on deck 10 in front of the sports deck. Fresh air, no smoke, no diesel, just a lot of wind. Great place about midnight.
