"DCL Klondike Kruisers" - August 23, 2011 PART 2

Well after two hours sitting in the post office watching water dry on the sidewalk, we finally have Isabelle's passport application underway. The guy said we should have it in about 4 weeks. $120 - ouch!

Haven't done much cruise-related stuff for a bit. DH is expecting two bonuses any payday now, and once that comes we can book airfare and get a few more things we need. Like new suitcases lol - ours are just sad.

Think that's all I've got. Headed to West Palm Beach for Memorial Day weekend, will be a good change to practice keeping "little bit" busy during several hours of transport. lol

So does anyone dress up for pirate night?
pirate:

We sort of do. Used to fully dress up, now I just wear a black skirt and white top and big belt to add to the bandana they give us. I doubt I will do anything this time. Oh except eat.:thumbsup2

This will be my first cruise where I will be wearing jeans. I have decided to dress in layers and I think that will be the warmest. I can wear a polo shirt and a sweatshirt over if need be. I probably wont even have to shop for this cruise. Wow what a shocker that is.

I am going to pack my shi jacket. It will double a a rain coat and I can also wear under armour if it is to cold.

What is everyone else doing???

We got fleece lined rain coats for all of us...hats mittens and thermal underwear. I heard it was only really cold on the ship especially when it was moving....inland and in port it was very comfortable to most people. Sooooooo layers it is....no shorts....jeans...T's and fleece....oh yeah and rain proof hiking boots. Oh and I just have to warn everyone that I will be on the ship and with my luck it will most likely be a blizzard or hot as H*ll (and I won't have shorts) lol

Pretty much the same. Don't know about a ski jacket, but probably the one I wear all winter long. Fleece, vests, jeans, and other lightweight pants. Need to give some thought to the dresses. I'd like the family pics to look a little different than last summer's....

Ok...realistically we will be there in August, traditionally the warmest month. How cold should it get. I expect around 60's. Are fleece coats really necessary?

I hear you.....it will be August but I bet it will still be cold on the boat especially with the wind.

Hello.
My family of 4 will be on the alaskan cruise 8/23-8/30 and would like to participate in the FE, but we haven't done it before. How do we join and what type of items do we do? Thanks!

Welcome! I am Leisha traveling with DH. We are empty nesters traveling with our Disney family

Have a great time. We are playing golf and hiding from th kids! :lmao::rotfl2::lmao:

we normally dress up with the full pirate outfit not sure if we will go all out on this cruise since haven;t heard of many pirates in alaska as of late. lol

We are also doing ski jackets - we have nice lightweight ones with removable fleece liners so they can double as raingear. We're packing jeans, light pants, layering tops. Oh yeah, and waterproof boots.

I'm also bringing swimsuits, since I hear the pools are heated nicely. Hot tubbin in Alaska sounds great to me! I'll just bring my robe up on deck :thumbsup2

Weather is supposed to be 60's - the HIGHs. I forget the lows, but nighttime might get a little nippy if you're a Florida gal like me. Considering it's still rain season and it may get a little windy on deck, I'll probably have a sweater on even at high noon ;)

Thank goodness the baby is small....her clothes won't take up as much room :rotfl: I'm planning to pack with the intention of doing laundry halfway through also, which should save on some valuable suitcase real estate. Our trip will be 11 days total so we need to be as efficient as possible. Plus I have to bring a stroller for Isabelle.

When we went in 2009 it was fairly warm during the day. We'll be taking light weight raingear, fleece/sweatshirts and gloves (for Tracy Arm day), jeans, a couple of other pairs of pants, long and short sleeve shirts. If you are planning on spending any time in Vancouver/Victoria/Seattle area - pack some shorts as well. It can get quite warm up here that you'll want them. We have been known to have a heatwave or two during the summer where the temperature is around 90-100 for a few days. Who knows at what point during the summer it's going to show up. Typically it's in the 75-80 range at that time of year.

There are lots of shops in the Alaskan Ports that you can purchase quite reaonsably priced sweatshirts/fleece/rain jackets. However, Tracy Arm is before the Ports and that day will be on the cool side. They served hot chocolate on the last cruise we went on, so gives you the idea of how on the nippy side it's going to be.

We are empty nesters as well, but the birds did not fly to far from the nest and they and their off spring will be joing us.:worship:

My ski jacket has a zip out liner as well. I think we are all on the same page. I am under 90 days. YEAH

We decided we needed this cruise to get ready for DD wedding in OCt. :scared1:If we could take DGD with out her parents she would be with us but her parents are smarter than we thought.:lmao::rotfl2::lmao: One of these days I want all of us to do a cruise. :dance3:

Finally getting caught up with everything here and I have a day off, YEAH!! I'm getting excited too, can't believe we are in the double digits. Rick and I are still planning on visiting each of the stops and doing some Geocaching. Holler if you're on a budget and want to meet up to do a little caching and snacking around one of the stops.
Hope you have sun where you are...here it's still raining and cold 55, kinda like some parts of Alaska will be in August

Happy Wednesday!
Robyn

We might be up for that! It's been awhile so my spotting skills are a little rusty, but we always enjoyed that hobby. We have nothing booked in Skagway, that might be a good place for us :goodvibes

Zweihund,
Great to hear from you! We'll have to plan to meet that day :) We are brushing up on our skills this spring/summer, can't wait to grab a few caches in a new state and new country, should make for a great tour.
