DCL for a single mom and her 10 yr old boy?

I'm not a single mom, but I just returned from a trip with my son. We had a fantastic time. My son is almost 13 so I basically only saw him at dinner. I didn't feel awkward. I requested a table for two and it was granted. We always do second seating and they always grant my request not to be seated with someone else. I would suggest second seating. It's also much quieter they're are fewer toddlers and babies at that time.

Single mom checking in here. Best thing I ever did with my girls was take them on DCL. They loved it. They spent more time in the club, lab and the teen club (the name is not coming to me) than I thought they would but they had a blast. We did dinner every night together that was a requirement. I got to spend time with each of them doing an activity or something fun and then with them together. When they were spending time in the clubs and lab I spent time in the adults only area. You will not fill out of place or stick out like a sore thumb. You will just be a mom with a child. Have a great trip.

Also a former single mom here. On our first DCL cruise (when I was single) two of my girls and I were table mates with a single dad and his two girls! It was great - the younger girls hit it off and were with each other in all of the clubs and at meals. He was super nice and I ran into him a few times and we talked about getting the kids together and would sit with them at the clubs, bingo, trivia, theater, etc. Disney was trying to be a match maker I tell ya!

I met a single mom traveling with her son onboard DCL once. She did not like it because her son wanted to spend all his time in the kids club, and she was trying to meet people to talk to in the adult areas. So while it may not be "awkward," if you are planning to spend time with your child, you may end up having to schedule time for it.

Single mom to 3, have traveled DCL as a single mom many times. There will be lots of other single parents, so no need to worry. If you want to do things together there are lots of family activities for that; if he wants to spend all his time in the club/lab/edge, no problem you can enjoy the adult pool and cove cafe.
As so many others have said, DCL does a great job matching similar families together for dining so do not feel like you MUST get a table alone.
