We have never "cruised" before and are thinking of booking for April 2005 on a 5 day 4 night DCL eastern cruise. I have heard from veterans of "other" cruise lines that the extra charges can really add up. What potential "extra charges" will we encounter on our Disney Cruise? In other words, what expenses are NOT included in the reservation fee?

Thanks for your help!!

Excursions, alcohol drinks, sodas at the bars (unless you buy the unlimited mug refills) but soda IS included when eating any of the dining room, Spas, Playing Bingo....

That is all i can think of now..

Someone else i am sure will have more to think of..

Excursions can be a wide range of expenses. You can simply just get off the ship and walk around w/o paying anything to book an excursion on the ship depending what you want to do...Look on the disneycruise.com for the list excursions and prices. That will give you an idea.

The extra charges go for any cruise. Extra costs:

Tips
Pictures
Excursions
Drinks
Bingo
Souveniers
Spa

Those are the main ones I can think of. Mileage of course varies for each person.

The gratuities for your room steward and serving team are also items that need to be taken into consideration.

Hi welcome to the boards.

Tipping guidelines per person per cruise are
Four-night cruise:
Dining Room Server $14.75
Dining Room Asst. Server $10.75
Dining Room Head Server $3.75
Stateroom Host/Hostess $14.50

Soda Packages offering unlimited refills are around $5 per day bought for the cruise duration , otherwise there is a deck 9 drink station offering free juice, iced tea, tea, coffee, milk, water, etc , soda and juice, tea coffee etc are also free at all sit down meals but not at topsiders.

All food is included from breakfast to late night snacks , room service food is also free but tip around $1-$2 a go.
It is free to go ashore in all the ports but excursions are extra and range from $15 - $350 , you can also easily book independent excursions.

Bingo is $5 a card, smoothies $3.50 each , alchohol is not included but you can bring your own aboard and just buy the mixers, there's a coolbox in your room and host will bring you ice up to three times a day.

Movies and theatres are free

Photo Packages start at $89.95 but you can take your own or buy individually.

If you want any spa treatments they are extra and prices are on the dcl website and also if you wish to eat at Palo it is $10 per person charge plus any tipping.

15% is automatically added to any drinks ordered.

Hope that helps a bit.

And there is a charge for arcade games .... it can add up quickly if you have children who like to play the games.

And if you are going to eat at Palo (the adult restaurant) there is a service charge for that.

This can vary quite widely. This board will give you a good idea of the prices, and you can total up what you think your family would likely buy.

Tips: This is a necessity, but everything else is optional.

Alcoholic drinks: Beer runs $3-4/can; Mixed drinks run $3.50-6 each -- I believe tips are included in these prices (can anyone verify?).

Sodas: Free in the dining rooms but not the buffet; $2 each or $5 per day for the unlimited package (the unlimited package is quite a rip-off, in my opinion). You can get free mugs by booking through AAA, or you can bring your own. Or you can drink free lemonaide, tea, and fruit punch outside the dining rooms.

Spa treatments: These are quite pricey. Lists can be found all over the internet.

Shore excursions: You can skip these and just wander around on your own, with a little homework you can book your own excursions, or you can book through Disney. The choices and the prices vary widely.

Everyone gave you an idea about how much the extra charges will be. I would like to add that we cruised for 7 days and never once felt pressure to buy anything. That includes drinks at dinner or at the pool or really anywhere. We felt very comfortable visiting many adult places and not buying anything. Now THAT was a pleasant surpirse.

DIS Hawk: do you know something new? DCL does not have 4 night eastern cruises, only Bahamas. Occasionally there is an atypical sailing, but is there one in April 05?

It should be noted that the amounts that Traycie listed are per person in your party.

CGC33A: My mistake. By Eastern I meant Bahamas. Sorry. I certainly do not know anything new. LOL

Thanks for pointing that out.

And thanks to everyone for your help!!
