We will be taking our first cruise (3 night) in Sept 2009. We were thinking of booking a 7 night in Oct 2010. I've heard they give deals on booking a future cruise while on a current cruise, is that true?? What kind of deals do they give? Is it cash deals, point deals, etc...? Any info would be appreciated.

Bottom line is should I wait on booking the 7 night cruise until I'm on the 3 night cruise??

Thanks

Any deals for future cruises would be for the cash price and/or room charge credits. The point requirements for the cruises are negoiated each year.

You aren't allowed to use your points to book a cruise while onboard. This next I think is correct.... However, to get the discounts for booking a cruise while on board (and use your DVC points) you have 3 days after your cruise ends to book.

If you book a cruise while on a cruise you get up to a 10% cash discount.

the current deal for booking using DVC points within 3 days after you disembark is:

2009 7 night cruises: Depending on your stateroom, 14-15 points off the point totals per guest for the first two people per stateroom . you do not get a discount on the points for the 3rd-5th guests. Exceptions are 4/4, 4/11, 12/19 and 12/26 where the discount is 7-8 points per guest for the first two guests.

2009 4 night cruises: discounts range from 7-9 points off per guest for the first two guests

2009 3 night cruises: discounts range from 7-8 points off per guest for the first two guests

hope that helps!

This is great information! :scratchin I'm wondering though if this needs to first be initiated on the cruise as a cash ressie, then transferred w/in 3 days, -or- just call MS w/in 3 days to start the process?

And how did I miss this on my last cruises? :upsidedow

We received a DVC onboard offer book in our stateroom on night 2 of the cruise. the book says "to make your reservation and receive this special offer, please call MS within 3 business days of disembarkation". no need pay cash then transfer, according to the book - you call within 3 days and you're good to go!

We have done many cruises so hopefully I have the information correct. If not, I am sure someone here on Dis will correct any errors on my part...;)

If you book while you are on the cruise at the 'DCL Rebooking Desk' you receive about a 10% savings off a cash ressie.

If you want to book your next cruise with points you need to call Member Services within 3 Business Days after getting off the cruise.

You do not have to pay cash and then turn around and make the ressie with points. If you want to rebook with points just wait until you are off the ship and give MS a call within the 3 Business Day window.

Hope that helps!:teacher:

We rebooked onboard the Wonder this summer 'cuz they were running a 1/2 price deposit special ($125 pp rather than $250 pp). We got the 10% discount off the cruise (excluding port charges I think) and a $200 OBC. We also gave the ressie to SueEllen at Dreams Unlimited and got another $200 OBC from Dreams. To sweeten it further we actually only booked a "dummy date" 'cuz we don't know when we're actually going yet - so we only had to put a depost down for 1 person at the time of booking. So $125 secured us the discount and OBC's. We will push the ressie out further from 2009 to 2010 later. (Then probably from 2010 to 2011 as I hear they're going to the Baltic for summer 2010...not interested in that.)

We didn't inquire about using points, although we cruised on points for our 4 nighter...they've raised them up so much it's not cost efficient enough for us.

subing...so I can find this later!

Thanks for all the great info, we are sailing on our first cruise in 09/09 and I was hoping to book a cruise for 2010 onboard to get those types of discounts as Annie described!
