Anyone has done an Alaskan Cruise? How does it compare to DCL? We have two teens (11 & 14). Will they enjoy the cruise at all? Any specific cruise/company recommendation?

We did an Alaskan cruise on the Star Princess this past summer. Our daughter (11) enjoyed the kids program just as much if not more than Disney and the food was MUCH better. Even as big of Disney fans that we are we would pick a Princess cruise over a Disney one (have done 3 Disney cruises.) This summer a brand new ship the Diamond Princess will be doing the cruise we did - our favorite vacation of all time - and we travel alot.

We leave next friday for our Alaska cruise on the Diamond. In 2000 I cruised to Alaska on NCL. We have not taken our DDs yet because they are pretty young. I really think you cannot go wrong with an Alaska cruise because visually it is awesome. Most cruiselines even offer excursions geared towards families with children. Take a look at the cruise critics message board, under Ports of call, you will get some great info from the Alaska Board.

I just wanted to post that a dedicated DCL cruiser just went on their first non DCL cruise. We went with Princess and believe me they do not compare. The Mouse does a much better job in all aspects of cruising.
We loved our 12 day land and sea tour and would do it again tomorrow if we had the money but we wish DCL were in the market there.
We started our tour in Fairbanks with trips on the Alaska Railroad to Denali and Talkeetna and ended with a bus to Whittier where we caught the Coral Princess to Vancouver. Weather was unbelievably good. We saw Denali two days in a row.
If anyone on this board is considering this trip (and you all should be) we will try to help you in any way we can.
Have a great time anywhere you are.

I've never done a DCL cruise nor one to Alaska but have each booked - 3 day Wonder in December and 10 day Alaska Cruisetour June 2005 (RCCL Vision of the Seas and trip to Denali and Talkeetna via motorcoach and railway). I expect both to be different yet hoping both are equally fun.

And, I just put a deposit down for a 5 day Voyager of the Seas out of Bayonne NJ Aug 8, this year. This was a last minute plan and the pricing looked good. Was already going to be on the East Coast for 10 days anyway so thought why the heck not.

We have typically been go to a nice resort and stay at the resort type of people, I decided for the same money we could cruise and see different things. This is our year to give it a try. :-)
