Anyone ever order a cake from DCL?? I wanna surprise hubby with a cake for his birthday while on board and need some recommendations the mickey cake is super cute but i also like the idea of having more options and a message.

In my own personal view the DCL ones we order are not 100% nice, there ok but I think expensive and not as good as they could be. DCL can make good cakes so I am not sure why the ones we buy are not as good as the ones from room service (A slice) or in the MDRs or buffet.

I ordered a cake for my dad's 65th birthday. I ordered a marble cake with dark chocolate filling and vanilla cream icing. It was delicious and 10x better than the regular MDR desserts (which I find most are pretty but flavourless). We shared it with our tablemates (so 8 of us total) and then I gave the remainder to our servers. It was great - he was very surprised and we all enjoyed it.

I second the marble cake! We've done it twice, both times with the white buttercream and it was delicious! Just remember when you asked for it to be delivered. On our last cruise I totally spaced about it coming. We were scrambling to track down our whole group and do the cake party then!

We find the custom cakes much tastier than the celebration cakes.

The first time we did it we got help from concierge to get it out to our cabana and it was there waiting for us when we got to our cabana. The second time we had it delivered to one of our staterooms that was adjoining to the stateroom the birthday girl was in. Once we were all there we lit the candles and knocked on the dividing door to surprise her.

The cake for our 25th anniversary vow renewal was delicious.
White cake with chocolate ganache.

Call ahead if you want to order something other than what is on the "in room" gift page.

We had a custom cake for our recent cruise and did not like the taste of it at all. It was pretty, and we enjoyed the fruit and chocolate decorations on it, but the cake itself tasted like it was frozen and then thawed. I won't order one again.

We set sail on DH's actual 60th b'day. Since the day will be pretty hectic with driving and boarding, I thougt I would have a cake delivered with dinner (or maybe just to the room). I'm thinking about ordering the carrot cake option (which is his favorite) with white chocolate filling. Anyone ever tried it?

I will try to remember to order a cake for Patrick's birthday. He gets so much enjoyment from the special treatment on the ship!

Is it rude to ask what the starting price point is?

The Mickey head cake starts and $25. If you go to "in room gifts and amenities" on the DCL page you will see the Mickey head cake. Call the number listed and they can give you more specifics for what you are looking for.

Here's the price list for the various cakes. This shows the Mickey Head cake starting at $55 - no personalization! They have a smaller celebration cake for $25 but not sure that it's a Mickey head or not.

Ah thanks so much. Looks like some decent choices and the price is not out of line from what I expected.

We have had the carrot cake with buttercream filling and icing. It was so wonderful that people at other tables were eyeing us - so we shared. I have bought another for our next cruise.

This is great to hear!! Thank you so much for letting me know you enjoyed it @Little Doe. I will make sure and get a picture to share. ::yes::

Add me to the list of marble cake fans! We usually do it with the vanilla buttercream. Delicious. So much better than the mickey cake.
