DCL brides "Save the Dates" question

Hi everyone, I am planning on doing a DCL wedding in 2011. How far in advance should I send out the save the dates so the guests have enough time to save? Should I send them out when I book the cruise, a year prior? I am just concerned that, that will not be enough time for people to save, most people book cruises a year prior and I don't want them to have problems getting on the ship if they book like 3 months prior to the date. What should I do?

I am planning on sending my save the dates a year in advance. This way people have plenty of time to decide if they want to come or not.

you can book the cruise at anytime, but you won't know until 12 months if the wedding date is available..that was such a long weekend..waiting to hear if my cruise had an available wedding date!!

I wouldn't send them out until you know you have the date

I sent my STD's out 18 months before the cruise. I had all my guests booked before the date was confirmed with DFTW DCL. I had spoken with the WC, she knew we were booked and had guests traveling, what date we wanted, and told me no one else had spoken to her about that date. i figured that was a good reason to send them out. over a year later, my date is still availabe for other brides....so i think you would be ok to send out 12-18 months ahead of time IF you have spoken to a WC already.

Thanks for the advice, I will probably tell 18 people I will invite to the cruise by mouth now and then just send out all the information in an invitation after I booked the actual cruise. Even though it's not as official as a save the date, it's probably ok since it's just close family and friends.
