DCA Rides Experiences?

Hi all! Heading to DLR and wondering if anyone can share their experience with the rides at DCA as someone with a disability? Specifically, I’m realizing there are lots of rides I’m not familiar with as this will be my first time a DCA and need some help figuring out which rides might be problematic for me…

Aside from mobility/standing in lines, which I have covered with my rollator, my most problematic symptoms while at the parks are vertigo, dizziness, and nausea, and rides that spin or jostle riders excessively tend to be this biggest challenges for me. With that in mind, what rides would you suggest avoiding or, at the very least, looking into more to make that judgement call myself?

For context, rides like Ratatouille or Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad are ok, as is Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. Rides like the Mad Tea Party are not. Lol. For thrill rides, I love Tower of Terror, but intense rollercoasters like Expedition Everest are also a no-go (or maybe a ride l’ll do at the very end of the night as I love rollercoasters but know I’m going to feel like crap shortly afterward 😂).

Thanks so much for your help!!!

Do not ride Incredicoaster. Maybe Radiator Springs Racers is something you can look into more. Toy Story Mania is very similar to Buzz Lightyear. Monsters, Inc might be okay for you - not much different than the dark rides at Disneyland.

I agree with the above post, but you might want to investigate Toy Story Mania - it spins rapidly as you move from each scene to the next.

If you want to try the Ferris wheel - Pixar Pal-A-Round - you may want to ride the non-swinging cars. The swinging cars are rougher than you might think.

Here are my thoughts on this:
  • Most likely avoid:
    • Mater's Junkyard Jamboree - Whip type ride definitely seems like it would be out
    • Incredicoaster - Intense coaster
    • Goofy's Sky School - While it may not look intense, it is a Mad Mouse style coaster that whips back and forth
    • Pixar Pal Around - Swinging Gondolas (non swinging is likely fine)
  • Investigate further:
    • Luigi's - You should be able to watch an make a judgement call, but could be an issue considering what you described.
    • Web Slingers & Toy Story Mania - Both can whip you around a bit
    • Golden Zephyr & Emotional Whirlwind - In both cases think along the lines of Dumbo
    • Jumpin' Jellyfish - can be bumpy at the end
    • Grizzly River Run - can be quite bumpy, may be ok though and if it is, it is a fun ride, but you WILL get wet and one of the drops does spin the raft.
Luckily all but Web Slingers and Toy Story Mania can be observed from the outside. If you love Tower of Terror, you will likely love Guardians at DCA, but do be aware the drops can be more intense, they aren't always, but it can be and it is variable.

It sounds like you may be more familiar with the rides at Disneyland, but based on the information provided I will list I would think you would avoid below so you have an idea of where I am coming from for the above as well as for others that may come across this thread and find it possibly helpful. At bare minimum, hopefully it helps to get an idea for the above rides and what might or might not work:
  • Most likely avoid:
    • Mad Tea Party - You listed as one to avoid
    • Matterhorn - Since the seats have been changed to individual seats, this is hard on most people and is extremely rough on both sides now. This may be a case of last ride of the night or even of the trip if you did it at all.
    • Roger Rabbits Cartoon Spin - Although you CAN hold the wheel if you have enough upper body strength and negate most (not all) of the spinning aspect and you can see just how detailed the ride truly is.
  • Investigate further:
    • Indiana Jones - doesn't spin, but is very bumpy
    • Dumbo
    • Peter Pan - The Disneyland version uses a different load and ride system and can be extremely bumpy
    • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad - Roller Coaster, but not super intense.
    • Star Tours - The 3D combined with the movement of the ride vehicle gives even DH nausea at times and he is completely not prone to motion sickness.
    • Gadget's Go Coaster (I forget the current name for it) - This is a total judgement call, it is not intense in my opinion, but for some it could be.
    • Smuggler's Run - This may be problematic since it uses a turntable system to rotate through the vehicles to load, but that is extremely subjective.

Amazing! Thanks so much for your thoughts. I’m definitely more familiar with the WDW parks, though I’ve been to the DL park once before, so I appreciate the suggestions at both DLR parks 🙂 thanks again!

DS and I both have vertigo and went in November. Guardians of Galaxy made us both nauseous and we stayed that way a couple hours. Unlike ToT they use screens at each stop before you zoom up or down. Great ride but we decided to not ride again.
